About The Position

The College of Medicine, Master of Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) Program is seeking a Sessional Lecturer to teach the Research and Evidence Based Medicine course during the 2026-2027 academic year. This course is delivered longitudinally across both years of the MPAS program, introducing learners to principles of evidence-based medicine for clinical decision-making. Key topics include formulating research questions, evaluating evidence, integrating evidence with patient values, ethical research practices in quality improvement/quality assurance, action research for professional growth, critical appraisal of research methodologies, literature review approaches, and knowledge mobilization strategies. The course culminates in a capstone project where learners will present their findings.

Requirements

  • A Ph.D., or equivalent in Educational Administration, Health Professions Education, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching at the post-secondary level.
  • Demonstrated experience in supervising research at the post-secondary level.
  • A strong record of scholarly activity in education or health professions research.

Responsibilities

  • Teach the Research and Evidence Based Medicine course to Year 1 and Year 2 MPAS learners.
  • Introduce learners to the principles of evidence-based medicine for clinical decision-making.
  • Guide learners in formulating focused research questions.
  • Instruct learners on searching for and evaluating evidence.
  • Teach learners to integrate evidence with patient values and preferences.
  • Focus on applying ethical research practices in quality improvement/quality assurance in clinical medicine.
  • Facilitate action research as a means of reflective practice for professional growth.
  • Critically appraise various qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
  • Guide learners in literature review approaches and knowledge mobilization strategies.
  • Oversee the capstone project, which leverages a research question to guide literature review, research method, data collection and analysis, and communication of findings.
  • Facilitate learners' presentation of their capstone projects.
