About The Position

This posting is for a Sessional Lecturer position in the Department of Philosophy at the University of Toronto Mississauga for the Fall 2026 academic session. The course, PHL210Y5 Y - 17th and 18th Century Philosophy, will cover discussions on topics such as causation, knowledge, and mind-body dualism in the works of philosophers including René Descartes, Princess Elisabeth, Baruch Spinoza, John Locke, Anne Conway, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, Émilie du Chatelêt, David Hume, and Immanuel Kant. The position is in accordance with the Collective Agreement between The Governing Council of the University of Toronto and the Canadian Union of Public Employees, Local 3902 Unit 3. The position is tentative, pending final course determinations and enrolments. Applications are being sent to members of the Department’s Applicant Pool who have applied within the last thirty-six months. All pool members wishing to be considered must submit a CUPE 3902 application form, a cover letter, and an updated curriculum vitae.

Requirements

  • PhD in-hand, preferably in philosophy.
  • Prior experience as a course instructor, preferably in Philosophy at U of T.
  • Advanced prior knowledge of the subject matter of the course and topic-related teaching experience.

  • Related research and a record of research achievement is considered an asset to this position.

Responsibilities

  • All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments; calculation and submission of grades; holding regular office hours.
  • Completion of any course grading not already finished by April, 2027.
