About The Position

This job posting is for a Sessional Lecturer position for the FSL105H5F Functional French-Novice course. The course aims to introduce students to the French phonetic system, basic vocabulary, and language functions in various situations. It also focuses on developing awareness of francophone cultures and communities. The estimated enrollment is 40 students with no TA support. The mode of instruction is expected to be in-person, but this may change with advance notice. The sessional dates for this appointment are from September 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026.

Requirements

  • Graduate-level degree in French Studies
  • Demonstrated experience teaching university-level French-as-a-second-language courses
  • (Near-)native competence in spoken and written French

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching this course or a closely related university-level course is preferred
  • Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II and Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation and delivery of course content
  • Out-of-class interactions with students via e-mail and office hours
  • Development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams
  • Calculation and submission of grades
  • Ordering of all necessary readings
  • Supervision of TAs (if any) assigned to the course
