About The Position

This course focuses on how we can analyze numerical and categorical data to gain reliable insights into people and social processes. Topics include data tables, graphs, descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, and inference to a population. The estimated course enrollment is 100 students, with an estimated 300 hours of TA support. The class schedule is Tuesdays from 9-11 am. The sessional dates of appointment are from September 1 to December 31, 2026. The salary is a minimum stipend of $9,997.48 for a Half course, inclusive of vacation pay. Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.

Requirements

  • PhD in Sociology or equivalent as demonstrated by refereed/published research
  • Strong academic record
  • Previous experience teaching a similar course
  • Evidence of teaching excellence in the subject covered in the course

Responsibilities

  • All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content
  • Development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams
  • Calculation and submission of grades
  • Holding regular office hours
  • Supervising TAs assigned to course
  • Order all necessary readings
