ServiceNow Platform Architect

Halvik•McLean, IL
•$150 - $170

About The Position

Halvik Corp is seeking a hands-on ServiceNow Platform Architect to own the end-to-end technical design of multiple ServiceNow applications. The role supports a FedRAMP-hosted platform compliant with NIST SP 800-53 rev. 5 Moderate for internal users across multiple federal offices, with large volumes of current and historical data. The architect safeguards the program’s design principle of using out-of-the-box functionality first, configuration second, and customization only when necessary and approved by the Governance Board. Design decisions must account for upgrade impact, security, and protection of employee and applicant PHI/PII. The architect provides technical leadership and governance across platform architecture, workflows, notifications, reporting, integrations, and delivery. This includes reviewing designs and code, translating business requirements into technical solutions and estimates, identifying and escalating risks, and ensuring client-facing and internal experiences meet Section 508 accessibility standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of software development experience, including 5 or more years of ServiceNow development experience.
  • Hands-on depth in ServiceNow HR Service Delivery or case management, Service Portal or Employee Center, Flow Designer, and Workspaces.
  • Proven experience designing complex security models, including ACLs, roles, data separation, and condition- or attribute-based access.
  • Experience with ServiceNow encryption options, such as Column Level Encryption Enterprise, and handling PII/PHI.
  • Integration experience with IntegrationHub, MID Server, REST/SOAP, file-based FTP/SFTP transfers, and export sets.
  • Experience designing for large data volumes, including indexing, archiving, table rotation, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with Performance Analytics and reporting architecture.
  • Experience delivering production integrations and resolving complex system issues.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
  • ServiceNow Certified Technical Architect (CTA) or Certified Master Architect (CMA).
  • ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) and Certified Application Developer (CAD).
  • Certified Implementation Specialist in HR Service Delivery; Platform Analytics or Performance Analytics micro-certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated success in federal contracting, particularly civilian agency IT modernization or Software Factory programs; prior DOT experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Agile/Scrum team delivery and FedRAMP-authorized environments such as AWS GovCloud.
  • Prior work on federal ServiceNow instances, such as ServiceNow National Security Cloud or Government Community Cloud.
  • Experience with reasonable accommodation, EEO, employee relations, or other sensitive HR case programs.
  • Familiarity with Section 508 accessibility testing and records management schedules, including NARA General Records Schedules.
  • Experience migrating data from legacy case systems and replacing PowerBI reporting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Select and design the ServiceNow platform foundation, such as HR Service Delivery case management and HR Agent Workspace, while maximizing out-of-the-box capability.
  • Apply the out-of-the-box, configuration, and customization hierarchy to requirements and document the rationale.
  • Prepare upgrade-impact assessments for proposed customizations and present them to the Governance Board.
  • Maintain a customization register documenting what was built, why, who approved it, and its upgrade risk.
  • Enforce change control so preset record fields cannot be modified or deleted without Governance Board approval.
  • Define coding, naming, update set, and development/test/production instance standards for the delivery team.
  • Participate in technical design sessions and provide technical recommendations for features and enhancements.
  • Design role-based and attribute-based access control so data and document visibility changes by reasonable accommodation stage: submission, review, approval, denial, and reconsideration.
  • Review workflow designs for intake, QA/QC validation, approvals, and reconsideration for maintainability and out-of-the-box fit.
  • Validate notification designs for request initiation, expiring temporary accommodations, paused requests, and next-step readiness.
  • Architect Performance Analytics dashboards to replace hourly PowerBI refreshes, including scoped reporting for OAs and the DRC.
  • Design a central repository of preauthorized template forms and documents.
  • Serve as technical authority for developers, integration engineers, and reporting developers; review designs and code.
  • Translate business requirements from the Product Owner and Business Analysts into technical solutions and estimates.
  • Identify technical risks early, propose options, and escalate decisions with clear trade-offs.
  • Ensure the client-facing intake portal and internal workspaces meet Section 508 accessibility standards.

Benefits

  • Company-supported medical, dental, vision, life, short-term disability, and long-term disability insurance.
  • 11 federal holidays and PTO.
  • Eligible employees may receive performance-based incentives in recognition of individual and/or team achievements.
  • 401(k) with company matching.
  • Flexible Spending Accounts for commuter, medical, and dependent care expenses.
  • Tuition Assistance.
  • Charitable Contribution matching.
