About The Position

The Part-Time Server provides professional catering service to guests of the Wilmington Convention Center, with the goal of achieving customer satisfaction and retention. The role includes preparing event spaces and tables, assisting with event service, responding to guest needs, and completing post-event breakdown and cleaning. The position is on site and may require work inside or outside the building depending on event needs. Servers may receive work directions and assignments from Banquet Captains and provide guidance and support to temporary staff assigned to an event.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 1 year of work experience in a food and beverage environment providing direct customer service to guests.
• Knowledge of catering services and terminology.
• Ability to work well with other team members.
• Strong guest service skills.
• Ability to receive and carry out instructions in a timely manner.
• Attention to detail.
• Ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
• Availability to work irregular hours, including nights and weekends.
• Ability to acquire ServSafe Food Handler Certification within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Attend pre-function meetings to receive event details.
• Assist with preparation and setup of event rooms as needed.
• Prepare tables with place settings as instructed.
• Complete side work, including cleaning and filling salt and pepper containers, sugar dishes, and creamers; collecting banquet equipment; and preparing garnishes, beverages, condiments, and breads.
• Provide friendly and courteous guest service throughout events.
• Remain at assigned station or stations and perform duties according to each event.
• Report guest concerns or complaints to the Banquet Captain or Food and Beverage Manager.
• Break down tables and banquet equipment after events.
• Clean serving pieces and return them to the proper storage area.
• Report to work in proper uniform at the scheduled time and follow grooming standards and policies.
• Maintain clean and orderly front- and back-of-house areas.
• Provide guidance and support to temporary staff assigned to an event.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
