About The Position

Highdive, a NetEase Games Thunderfire development studio, is part of one of the leading developers and publishers in the gaming industry. The goal of Highdive is to ignite players’ passionate minds and curiosity, foster creative expression, and spread joy and wonder. This is a rare chance to work on a new IP. This position of Technical Narrative Designer would be to design narrative systems and integrate narrative experiences throughout our levels according to the game’s narrative vision. They will need to collaborate between departments to design and implement a great player experience. The ideal candidate possesses extensive expertise in crafting intricate narratives for games and can seamlessly integrate these narratives into the player experience while using the tools at hand. Their responsibilities include designing and implementing narrative systems that support and enhance the story overall while maintaining stellar collaboration across disciplines in the process.

Requirements

Knowledge of blueprint/UE5 exp or in house tool engine
Familiarity with visual scripting/scripting, 3D level editors
Shipped at least one AAA game
Proficiency in English is essential for this role because the employee will be required to communicate regularly with colleagues and stakeholders located outside Quebec, where English is the primary language of communication between offices.

Responsibilities

Design, prototype & script narrative systems for gameplay support (barks, etc.)
Collab with level design, narrative, art and audio on story structure, characters arcs, environmental storytelling, tone consistency, pacing & world-building
Assist and contribute feedback to the creation of tools and systems for narrative integration
Work with teams to implement and maintain narrative content & non-vo content of all kinds (dialogue/menu strings /objectives etc.)
Maintain technical documentation for narrative tools & workflows
Mentor writers in narrative design (systems, etc) when possible
