About The Position

Sonar is seeking a deeply technical Marketing Technology Architect / Developer to lead the data architecture, custom code development, system integrations, and infrastructure scalability of its marketing engine. The current day-to-day stack relies on Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC), while the company is considering next-generation architecture such as Marketing Cloud Next. Tool-specific proficiency is less important than passion for marketing technology, AI-driven marketing innovation, robust data architecture, and technical problem-solving. The role focuses on preparing marketing data for operational use; designing scalable relational data models; developing automated SQL and ETL pipelines; maintaining data quality and synchronization; writing custom platform code; building personalized experiences, forms, and landing pages; and architecting reliable API and CRM integrations. It also oversees platform performance, security governance, privacy compliance, and email deliverability infrastructure. The position partners with Marketing Operations, Data, DevOps, and IT Security teams to build and maintain scalable marketing systems.

Requirements

  • Advanced hands-on SQL and database design experience, including relational data modeling, complex joins, data aggregation, and query performance tuning.
  • Solid understanding of REST and SOAP APIs, JSON/XML payload construction, OAuth 2.0, webhooks, and API testing tools such as Postman.
  • Mastery of platform-specific scripting such as AMPscript and SSJS, or strong proficiency in JavaScript, Node.js, or Python, with the ability and interest to apply programming principles to marketing technology.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on technical architecture, system administration, or custom development experience inside Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC).
  • Experience with SFMC Automation Studio, Journey Builder technical configurations, Contact Builder, CloudPages, API integrations, or early exposure to Marketing Cloud Next, Data Cloud, or AI frameworks.
  • Practical understanding and demonstrated curiosity about how predictive, generative, or agentic AI is transforming technical marketing execution.
  • A track record of evaluating, adopting, and mastering new marketing platforms and technical tools.
  • Genuine interest in marketing technology, Customer Data Platforms, AI-driven marketing automation, and modern data engineering practices.
  • Platform-agnostic approach to selecting tools and AI models to solve data and communication problems.
  • Strong problem-solving interest in complex data bugs, race conditions, integration failures, and AI logic edge cases.
  • Genuinely based in the location where the role is posted, or willing to relocate.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, clean, structure, and model marketing data so Marketing Operations teams can run campaigns, segment audiences, and manage platform operations.
  • Design, build, and optimize relational database structures, data extensions, custom data models, and subscriber key lifecycles.
  • Collaborate with the Data Team on automated SQL queries and ETL pipelines that ingest, clean, transform, and map warehouse data into production-ready marketing data extensions.
  • Maintain data hygiene, identity resolution, deduplication protocols, and real-time synchronization across the marketing technology ecosystem.
  • Write clean, maintainable, scalable platform code for complex personalization engines.
  • Develop dynamic rendering logic, interactive web forms, and landing pages with secure backend logic.
  • Troubleshoot automation failures, script exceptions, and high-volume data transformation bottlenecks.
  • Architect, configure, and maintain API integrations connecting product applications, mobile backends, and third-party systems to the marketing platform.
  • Configure CRM and enterprise database connectors to support bidirectional, real-time data consistency and low latency.
  • Manage API rate limits, payload efficiency, OAuth authentication, and failure retry handlers.
  • Monitor automation runtimes, script performance, and query execution efficiency to support 99.9% operational uptime.
  • Lead platform security governance, business unit and partition structuring, user permissions, and compliance with GDPR, CCPA, and CAN-SPAM.
  • Partner with DevOps and IT Security on domain authentication, dedicated IP management, and deliverability infrastructure.

Benefits

  • Relocation support may be available for the right candidate.
