About The Position

Sonar is seeking a deeply technical Marketing Technology Architect / Developer to lead the data architecture, custom code development, system integrations, and infrastructure scalability of its marketing engine. The current primary platform is Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC), and the company is considering next-generation architecture such as Marketing Cloud Next. The role prioritizes broad marketing technology expertise, AI-driven marketing innovation, robust data architecture, and technical problem-solving over particular certifications or tool-specific proficiency. The position prepares and models marketing data for Marketing Operations, builds scalable relational structures and data pipelines, develops custom platform code, and architects integrations between marketing platforms and product or third-party systems. It also supports platform reliability, security governance, privacy compliance, and deliverability infrastructure. Sonar’s in-office culture includes three anchor days—Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays—and candidates must be based in the location where the role is posted, with relocation support available for the right person.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of experience in technical architecture, administration, or development in Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC), including relevant areas such as Automation Studio, Journey Builder, Contact Builder, CloudPages, APIs, or Data Cloud/AI frameworks.
  • Extensive experience with advanced SQL and relational data modeling, complex joins, aggregation, and query tuning.
  • Strong knowledge of REST/SOAP APIs, JSON/XML, OAuth 2.0, webhooks, and Postman.
  • Skill in AMPscript, SSJS, or general-purpose languages such as JavaScript, Node.js, or Python applied to MarTech.
  • Practical understanding of how predictive, generative, and agentic AI can transform technical marketing.
  • Track record of evaluating and mastering new marketing platforms and technical tools.
  • Passion for marketing architecture, event triggers, relational mapping, agentic AI, CDPs, and automated personalization.
  • Ability to adaptively use tools and AI models to solve data and communication challenges.
  • Enjoyment of debugging complex data issues, race conditions, integrations, and AI logic edge cases.
  • Must be based in the location where the role is posted; relocation may be supported for the right person.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, clean, structure, and model marketing data so Marketing Operations teams can run campaigns, segment audiences, and manage daily operations.
  • Build and optimize scalable relational database structures, data extensions, custom models, and subscriber key lifecycles.
  • Partner with the Data Team to create automated SQL queries and ETL pipelines that ingest and transform data warehouse datasets into production-ready data extensions.
  • Maintain data hygiene, identity resolution, deduplication, and real-time ecosystem synchronization.
  • Write maintainable custom platform code for personalization engines.
  • Develop dynamic rendering logic, interactive web forms, and secure landing pages.
  • Troubleshoot automation failures, script exceptions, and data bottlenecks.
  • Architect and maintain REST, SOAP, and webhook API integrations connecting product applications, mobile backends, and third-party systems to the marketing platform.
  • Configure native CRM and database connectors for low-latency, real-time bidirectional synchronization.
  • Manage integration rate limits, payload efficiency, OAuth, and retry handlers.
  • Monitor runtimes, script performance, and query execution to support 99.9% uptime.
  • Lead security governance, permissions, business-unit structuring, and privacy compliance, including GDPR, CCPA, and CAN-SPAM.
  • Partner with DevOps and IT Security on domain authentication and deliverability infrastructure.

Benefits

  • Relocation support for the right person.
