Senior Systems Integration Engineer, Simulation Platform

Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies•Irvine, CA

About The Position

The Senior Systems Integration Engineer will own how embedded controllers are incorporated into the virtual vehicle simulation platform and kept simulation-ready. The platform runs production embedded controller software in a closed loop with vehicle physics. The role defines standards for simulation-ready controller software, each controller’s interface to the simulated vehicle, and the composition of multiple controllers into a correct, running full-vehicle system. The engineer works across the simulation team and embedded software organization, driving standards and tooling that other teams adopt. Responsibilities include integrating controllers, identifying and preventing integration defects, and owning simulation gates in the embedded software continuous-integration process.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical, Computer, or Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
  • At least 5 years of experience in embedded automotive software, or an equivalent demonstrated record.
  • Deep familiarity with modern embedded build systems and large firmware codebases.
  • Strong C and Python skills, including experience integrating compiled embedded code with host-side tooling.
  • Experience owning CI/CD pipelines consumed by other teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive a technical standard to adoption across teams outside the candidate’s own team.

Nice To Haves

  • Software-in-the-loop or virtual-ECU experience.
  • Automotive middleware and network fluency, including AUTOSAR-style interface generation, CAN/Ethernet, DBC/ARXML, and diagnostics.
  • Hardware-in-the-loop integration experience.
  • Contributions to code generators, build infrastructure, or release tooling used organization-wide.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive adoption of standards and automation that make every controller software release simulation-ready.
  • Own the definition of controller interfaces to the simulated vehicle and the tooling that keeps those definitions complete, consistent, and current across releases.
  • Integrate additional vehicle controllers into the simulation and own their composition into a full-vehicle system.
  • Diagnose integration defects at the controller boundary and convert findings into automated checks.
  • Own the simulation gates in the embedded software continuous-integration process.
  • Document the onboarding process and mentor engineers across the simulation and embedded software organizations.

Benefits

  • Competitive base salary.
  • Eligibility for an annual company performance bonus program for full-time positions; payments are discretionary and not guaranteed.
  • Eligibility for equity in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), subject to board approval and applicable plan terms and vesting requirements.
  • Comprehensive benefits package for full-time employees, including health coverage, retirement savings, time off, and family planning programs; offerings vary by country.
