About The Position

The Thermal Systems Simulation Integration Engineer advances virtual engineering by leading integration of full-vehicle, cross-functional co-simulation models, focused on Thermal Systems and related domains. The role enables high-fidelity, system-level simulation capabilities that support faster, data-driven engineering decisions. The position works collaboratively with Vehicle Design, Development & Validation (VDDV), Vehicle Performance, Validation, SMT, and VMEC teams to integrate simulation tools and methods. It calls for innovation, continuous improvement, and the ability to navigate and influence complex technical environments. This hybrid role is based in Warren, Michigan, with an expectation to report onsite at least three times per week. Travel is under 25%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience with 1D and 3D thermal systems plant models, including virtual controllers, and demonstrated ability to align plant, control strategies, and system-level integration.
  • Familiarity with system tools or controls integration CAE tools such as GT Power, AMESIM, CarSim, Carmaker, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar CAE tools.
  • Ability to work in teams while balancing technical theory with practical limitations.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as Git.
  • Familiarity with simulation data management systems such as Teamcenter.
  • Familiarity with CFD tools such as STAR-CCM+, FLUENT, or SIMERICS.
  • Ability to characterize thermal systems using 3D tools such as CFD and create and implement 1D plant models of underlying components and subsystems.
  • Practical automotive experience, such as building, restoring, modifying, or attending performance driving schools.
  • Participation in automotive teams such as Mini-Baja, Formula SAE, PACE, or Eco-Car.

Responsibilities

  • Lead delivery of integrated co-simulation packages for virtual thermal systems design, development, and validation.
  • Lead resolution of program issues by coordinating co-simulation partners.
  • Advocate for virtual methods in vehicle design, development, and validation.
  • Serve as the single point of contact for thermal systems co-simulation users and resolve usage concerns.
  • Forecast and plan needs and secure support for required resources.
  • Define strategic opportunities to innovate processes and methods.
  • Align with software releases and calibration milestones to keep the virtual vehicle co-simulation package up to date.
  • Ensure co-simulation packages meet standards set by the SIE governance team.
  • Represent thermal systems needs among SIE peers from other disciplines.
