Senior Software Engineer - Maps Platform

Zipline•South San Francisco, CA
•$160,000 - $250,000

About The Position

Zipline is hiring a Senior Software Engineer for its Maps Platform, which builds mapping infrastructure that powers every Zipline flight. The team develops the backbone for geographic data, features, and map-driven services used by Zipline products and operators. The role focuses on making map data fast, accurate, and reliable for human workflows such as map editors, operator dashboards, and regulatory UIs, as well as autonomous systems such as routing and onboard systems. This position combines backend, data, and platform engineering with user interface design and pragmatic production ownership. The engineer will own systems from raw data ingestion through production services, working with large-scale geospatial datasets and collaborating across autonomy, routing, simulation, and operations. Zipline uses AI-assisted and agentic engineering workflows to increase engineering velocity while maintaining strong standards for system rigor and data quality. The position may be hired at the Software Engineer II, Senior Software Engineer, or Staff Software Engineer level, depending on the candidate's experience, skills, and demonstrated scope. The stated starting cash range is $160,000–$250,000, with the final amount depending on factors including experience, qualifications, skills, work location, and projected impact. Total compensation may also include equity, discretionary annual or performance bonuses, sales incentives, and benefits.
