Senior Software Engineer Aerial Platform

NVIDIA•Redmond, WA
•$184,000 - $356,500

About The Position

NVIDIA is seeking a self-motivated senior software engineer to drive development, performance, and scalability of its Aerial CUDA Accelerated RAN platform, a framework for building high-performance, software-defined, cloud-native Radio Access Network functions on NVIDIA CPU, GPU, and DPU systems. The role offers the opportunity to work on technology for 5G and 6G networks and software-defined digital signal processing. The engineer will lead development of an end-to-end reference system stack for 5G/6G baseband systems; optimize CPU, GPU, and NIC subsystems for predictable low latency and maximum throughput; develop baseband functions; troubleshoot and integrate complex software modules in a lab; and support system integration, testing, demonstrations, and field trials. The role also involves partnering with customers and other engineering teams, unblocking customer and partner progress through feature implementation, and evaluating tools for Aerial SDK benchmarking.

Requirements

  • Wireless communications systems or digital signal processing background, with an interest in building carrier-grade communications systems.
  • Industry experience developing PHY/MAC-layer or baseband unit software in C/C++.
  • Understanding of PHY/MAC procedures, typical performance tradeoffs, and overall system performance.
  • Background with LTE/5G MAC and PHY from both systems and low-level 3GPP specification perspectives.
  • Ability to move between high-level systems perspectives and low-level details of complex wireless systems.
  • Comfort using wireless lab equipment such as signal generators, network analyzers, and power meters.
  • MS or PhD in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, or Telecommunications, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 8 years of proven work-related experience in software development and systems engineering.
  • Ability to work as an individual contributor or take a technical leadership role.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with management and engineering.
  • Experience in the telecommunications industry or working with telecommunications customers or partners.
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills for coordinating multiple initiatives, priorities, and implementations in complex projects.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Exposure to CUDA/GPU programming.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and development of an end-to-end reference system stack for 5G/6G baseband systems.
  • Optimize CPU, GPU, and NIC subsystems for predictable low latency and maximum throughput.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address performance bottlenecks in CPU, GPU, and NIC subsystems.
  • Troubleshoot and integrate complex software modules in a lab environment.
  • Develop software and implement baseband functions in C, C++, Python, and CUDA on a GPU platform.
  • Support system integration, performance testing, system demonstrations, and lab trials for end-to-end systems.
  • Act as a technical bridge between the engineering team and partner or customer engineering teams, including engagement with customer field trials and technical teams.
  • Implement missing features to unblock customer and partner progress.
  • Benchmark and develop or evaluate test tools for Aerial SDK evaluation.
