Vego Garden•Houston, TX
•$80,000 - $110,000•Hybrid

About The Position

Vego Garden is seeking a Senior Retention Marketing Manager to own retention strategy across the customer lifecycle for its DTC and e-commerce business. The role focuses on turning first-time buyers into repeat customers, increasing purchase frequency and category adoption, and reactivating lapsed customers to grow customer lifetime value and profitable existing-customer revenue. It combines strategic planning with hands-on execution, using lifecycle marketing, customer segmentation, behavioral insights, and experimentation. The manager will build and execute retention roadmaps and customer journeys that account for gardening seasonality, product ownership, and changing customer needs. They will lead email, SMS, and other relevant lifecycle channels; develop personalized automated journeys and campaigns; improve post-purchase education and recommendations; and manage the retention calendar and communication standards. The role also includes cohort and customer-behavior analysis, reporting, structured experiments, and incrementality testing where appropriate. The manager will translate customer and performance insights into recommendations and collaborate across acquisition, creative, content, merchandising, e-commerce, and customer experience. They will also shape loyalty and referral initiatives and manage relevant agency, platform, and contractor relationships. The position is based in Tomball, Texas, with a hybrid schedule of four onsite days and one remote day per week, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of specialized experience in retention and lifecycle marketing, with demonstrated ownership of retention strategy and programs for a DTC or e-commerce business.
  • Direct experience with a DTC consumer product brand, ideally involving physical products and repeat-purchase or cross-category growth.
  • Proven experience leading, mentoring, and developing retention and lifecycle marketing team members.
  • A track record of developing and executing retention strategies that measurably improve repeat purchase rate, purchase frequency, existing-customer revenue, or customer lifetime value.
  • Deep expertise in lifecycle marketing strategy, including customer segmentation, behavioral triggers, cohort-based strategies, customer journeys, and advanced lifecycle automation beyond basic email flows.
  • Hands-on expertise with email and SMS platforms such as Klaviyo or comparable tools, including automation, segmentation, testing, and performance reporting.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience using cohort analysis and customer data to identify retention opportunities and guide strategic decisions.
  • Understanding of contribution margin, promotional economics, and trade-offs between short-term revenue and long-term customer value.
  • Ability to translate customer insights into compelling messaging, relevant offers, and personalized lifecycle experiences that drive measurable results.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and project management skills.
  • Comfort moving between strategic planning, hands-on execution, and performance analysis in a fast-paced environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in gardening, home, outdoor living, or other categories with seasonal demand and longer purchase cycles.
  • Experience with Shopify, loyalty platforms, customer data tools, or subscription programs.
  • Experience designing incrementality tests or working with business intelligence tools and SQL.
  • Personal interest in gardening and helping customers build confidence as they grow.

Responsibilities

  • Build and execute a retention roadmap to increase repeat purchase rate, purchase frequency, cross-category adoption, and customer lifetime value.
  • Identify high-impact opportunities across onboarding, second-purchase conversion, cross-sell, loyalty, and win-back.
  • Develop customer journeys that reflect gardening seasonality, product ownership, and evolving customer needs.
  • Partner with the Growth Director to set retention goals, prioritize investments, and forecast existing-customer revenue.
  • Own the strategy and execution of email, SMS, and other relevant lifecycle channels, including automated journeys and promotional campaigns.
  • Build segmented, personalized experiences based on purchase history, engagement, customer value, and lifecycle stage.
  • Strengthen post-purchase journeys through product education, timely recommendations, and content that helps customers succeed in their gardens.
  • Manage the retention calendar, balancing education, product discovery, seasonal demand, and promotional activity.
  • Establish standards for deliverability, audience health, consent, and communication frequency.
  • Analyze customer cohorts to understand repeat purchase patterns, time to second purchase, category progression, and lapse risk.
  • Build reporting that connects retention activity to customer behavior, revenue, and profitability.
  • Run structured experiments across messaging, offers, timing, segmentation, and customer journeys.
  • Use holdouts and incrementality testing where appropriate to distinguish incremental revenue from purchases that would have happened anyway.
  • Turn customer feedback and performance insights into recommendations for marketing, merchandising, and customer experience.
  • Partner with acquisition teams to improve customer quality and connect first-purchase campaigns with long-term value.
  • Work with Creative, Content, Merchandising, E-commerce, and Customer Experience to deliver cohesive customer journeys.
  • Shape loyalty and referral initiatives based on customer needs and business economics.
  • Manage relevant agency, platform, and contractor relationships to support execution.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop retention and lifecycle marketing team members, providing strategic direction, setting priorities, and developing team expertise and performance.
