About The Position

The Senior Product Owner for Cloud & Hosting in Modern Engineering owns the strategy, roadmap, and outcomes for platforms used by GSK engineers. The portfolio includes developer tooling such as GitHub and Azure DevOps, infrastructure automation with Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform, Azure and Google Cloud hosting, observability, and AI-enabled engineering. This is a hands-on product leadership role involving strategic direction and prioritization as well as technical reviews, prototyping, and validation of engineering solutions. The role works with engineering, platform owners, security, quality, finance, procurement, and business stakeholders in the US and UK. It is responsible for delivering secure, compliant, reliable, and cost-effective capabilities, with success measured through delivery speed and safety, platform adoption and developer satisfaction, toolchain cost optimization, and controls integrated into the platforms. The position may be based in the United States or the United Kingdom and follows a hybrid working pattern. Office attendance is agreed with the manager for collaboration, and work across US and UK time zones is expected. Occasional travel between sites may be required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in technology, including 4+ years as a product owner or product manager for internal platforms, developer tools, or infrastructure products.
  • Delivery experience in pharmaceuticals, healthcare, financial services, or another regulated industry, with working knowledge of change control, validation, and audit processes.
  • Experience building and defending a multi-quarter roadmap using a prioritization method such as WSJF, RICE, or cost of delay.
  • Experience managing backlogs for two or more teams using Jira or Azure DevOps Boards and applying SAFe, Scrum, or Kanban.
  • Experience defining and reporting adoption, DORA, or developer experience metrics.
  • Experience conducting structured research with internal customers and translating insights into product features.
  • Experience developing a funded business case or migration plan covering costs, benefits, and risks.
  • Ability to influence senior leaders and multiple delivery teams without formal authority.
  • Hands-on experience designing, configuring, and troubleshooting GitHub Actions and/or Azure DevOps YAML pipelines, including security and integration controls.
  • Hands-on experience with Ansible and scripting or Infrastructure as Code using Python, PowerShell, or Terraform.
  • Working knowledge of Azure and/or Google Cloud architecture, identity, networking, and platform integration.
  • Experience investigating logs, metrics, and traces and using operational evidence to improve SLOs and reliability.
  • Experience leading technical design reviews, proof-of-concepts, API integration assessments, and solution validation.
  • Technical ability to integrate AI in platforms and conduct proofs-of-concept and assessments.

Nice To Haves

  • Background as an engineer, cloud, SRE, or DevOps practitioner who moved into product leadership.
  • Experience building reusable developer experience platform playbooks and automation patterns at enterprise scale.
  • Experience using Python or PowerShell to retrieve usage, cost, or operational data from platform APIs.
  • Experience building observability dashboards, querying telemetry, and supporting incident and root-cause analysis.
  • Hands-on evaluation of GitHub Copilot, AI agents, and MCP-based integrations, including secure execution controls, least-privilege identity, and human-in-the-loop approvals.
  • Familiarity with software supply chain security, including SBOMs, artifact signing, and hardened base images, and with cloud security posture tooling.
  • Experience working across India, US, and UK teams, time zones, and regulatory contexts, such as FDA and MHRA expectations for GxP systems.

Responsibilities

  • Own and defend a 12–18 month Cloud & Hosting portfolio roadmap aligned with engineering, security, and business strategy, using a clear prioritization method such as WSJF, RICE, or cost of delay.
  • Define and report targets for adoption, DORA metrics, developer experience, SLO attainment, and cost per user; use results to guide investment and retire low-value work.
  • Conduct interviews, surveys, and usage analysis with delivery teams in the US and UK to identify and size high-value problems.
  • Own and prioritize epics and features with clear acceptance criteria across two or more platform teams, and lead quarterly planning using PI- or OKR-based approaches.
  • Participate in architecture reviews, technical design, proof-of-concepts, implementation validation, and troubleshooting.
  • Build or modify representative CI/CD pipelines, Ansible automation, scripts, and API integrations to test feasibility and quality without taking over engineering delivery ownership.
  • Lead business cases and phased plans for toolchain consolidation and license optimization, including Azure DevOps-to-GitHub migration, and technically validate migration patterns, workflows, runners, identity, and controls.
  • Review logs, metrics, traces, dashboards, incidents, and SLOs with engineering teams, and turn root causes, operational findings, and technical debt into measurable product improvements.
  • Partner with Security, Quality, and GRC to deliver and verify GxP, SOX, software supply chain, and AI guardrail controls as platform features.
  • Shape the roadmap for GitHub Copilot and AI agent experiences in developer tooling, including usage policy, identity, approvals, operational safeguards, and value measurement.
  • Align senior leaders, architects, and delivery teams across regions on priorities, using evidence to support decisions.
  • Manage roadmaps and renewals with vendors including Red Hat, GitHub, Microsoft, Google, and observability/AIOps providers; own budget inputs, license utilization, and technical product assessments.
  • Drive onboarding, documentation, champion networks, and release communications to support adoption of new capabilities.
