Senior Product Manager - Near Aircraft Tools and Applications

Joby Aviation•San Carlos, CA
•$142,700 - $223,300

About The Position

The Elevate Edge Applications Team (EEAT) builds software used close to Joby’s physical operations, including charging infrastructure, maintenance tooling, configuration tracking, and operational intelligence. The Senior Product Manager will own one or more near-aircraft product surfaces end to end, from problem definition through launch and adoption. This is a hands-on product role in a hardware-constrained, regulated environment. The role involves spending time on the hangar floor, ramp, and in the field with technicians, maintenance planners, and test engineers, then translating observed workflows into an actionable roadmap. The Product Manager works as a peer to engineers and designers and connects EEAT with the operations, maintenance, and flight test organizations it serves.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or a comparable technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years of product management experience, including ownership of complex internal, enterprise, or operational software.
  • Strong technical judgment and ability to hold substantive design and architecture conversations with engineers.
  • Experience conducting user discovery and validation directly with the people doing the work.
  • Excellent written communication, including the ability to write and speak to PRDs.
  • A proven track record of shipping products from concept to launch in fast-paced, ambiguous environments.
  • Experience using AI tools and workflows to accelerate product work.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, a proactive mindset, and demonstrated ability to work effectively across teams.
  • Ability to perform lightweight data analysis, including SQL, to answer product questions.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in aviation, aerospace, defense, or another regulated industry.
  • Experience with maintenance, MRO, fleet operations, or asset management software.
  • Familiarity with hardware-adjacent software, including test systems, telemetry, firmware distribution, or industrial equipment.
  • Experience in operations, transportation, automotive, energy, or logistics environments.

Responsibilities

  • Develop deep domain fluency in supported workflows, including maintenance execution, aircraft software configuration, and charging operations.
  • Write clear product requirements documents and requirements that engineers can build from, and keep them current as the aircraft and operation change.
  • Partner with designers and engineers through discovery, definition, build, and launch.
  • Conduct user discovery in hangars, on ramps, and in the field, translating observed work into prioritized problems rather than feature requests.
  • Manage stakeholders across Operations, Tech Ops, and Flight Test, and build alignment on sequencing when their needs conflict.
  • Define adoption and usability metrics, instrument for them, and use them to guide what to build next and what to retire.
  • Drive releases in an environment with hardware dependencies, limited test windows, and consequences for regressions.
  • Use AI in product workflows to accelerate research, synthesis, and specification, and identify opportunities where AI can improve the end-user experience.

Benefits

  • Paid time off.
  • Healthcare benefits.
  • 401(k) plan with a company match.
  • Employee stock purchase plan (ESPP).
  • Short-term and long-term disability coverage.
