About The Position

Nitrogen is hiring a Senior Product Designer to help shape AI-native financial advice. The designer will own meaningful parts of the product from discovery through implementation, working closely with a product manager and engineering lead in structured six-week development cycles. The role focuses on making complex financial information clear and persuasive, designing trustworthy experiences for Nucleus™, Nitrogen’s AI engine, and creating connected patterns across its suite of advisor products. The designer will work on experiences that communicate AI actions, progress, uncertainty, and errors while keeping advisors in control. They will also translate topics such as investment risk, portfolio analysis, and insurance coverage into understandable visual experiences. Prototyping with AI tools is a core part of the design process, alongside maintaining reusable design components, patterns, and documentation and collaborating with engineering to ensure high-quality implementation. This is a fully remote role open to applicants across US time zones. The team’s core collaboration hours are Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Eastern Time, and reliable availability during that window is expected. Outside those hours, designers have flexibility to manage focused work time. The expected compensation range is $130,000–$140,000 plus an annual bonus target. Compensation may vary based on experience.

Requirements

  • Exceptional visual product design skills, including the ability to make complex, data-dense products clear, intuitive, and polished; portfolio should demonstrate layout, typography, visual hierarchy, and attention to detail.
  • A track record of designing and shipping software people rely on, with the ability to explain design decisions and share results or lessons learned.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with AI tools, using them to explore ideas, accelerate work, and build working prototypes; ability to show what was built and explain how AI has changed the design process.
  • Understanding of agentic design, including making AI experiences understandable and trustworthy, communicating AI activity, handling uncertainty and errors, and keeping people in control.
  • Experience working with design systems, including designing within established patterns, contributing components, and considering how systems scale across products and the people and tools building them.
  • Strong ownership of substantial product areas and ability to work effectively with product managers and engineers with limited oversight.
  • Curiosity and a bias toward learning, including the ability to understand unfamiliar domains and use research, experimentation, and feedback to guide decisions.
  • Conviction and humility: willingness to ask difficult questions, experiment, advocate for a point of view, listen to feedback, and change direction when appropriate.
  • Reliable availability during core collaboration hours, Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Eastern Time.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing and shipping AI-powered products, particularly agentic workflows or experiences where AI takes action for users.
  • Experience with investing, finance, or insurance products.
  • Experience leading a design system initiative or major product redesign, including templates, modular components, or guidelines that support consistent work by AI agents.
  • Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and React, and/or comfort using front-end AI tools to polish an experience before it ships.

Responsibilities

  • Work with a product manager and engineering lead to shape features from early ideas into plans for six-week development cycles.
  • Design how Nucleus communicates its actions, progress, uncertainty, and mistakes, and when it brings an advisor back into the process.
  • Translate complex financial topics, including investment risk, portfolio analysis, and insurance coverage, into clear and persuasive visual experiences.
  • Build and maintain reusable design components, patterns, and documentation for consistency across products and as a foundation for engineers and AI tools.
  • Prototype early and often, using AI-powered tools to explore approaches and test working experiences before committing to a direction.
  • Partner with engineering through implementation, review what is built, and refine details to meet the quality bar.
  • Share learnings, improve team practices, and create reusable AI workflows that help the team work faster without sacrificing quality.
