About The Position

OpenArt is hiring a Senior Product Designer to shape the experience of its AI creative platform for visual storytelling. The designer will help create an AI-native creative partner that supports users in making videos, images, characters, and stories, from initial idea through finished work. The role focuses on the end-to-end creative experience: enabling creators to direct and refine work through conversation, designing the behavior and communication of the AI agent, organizing work so experiments can grow into projects, and ensuring the product remains simple as its capabilities expand. The designer will also explore new ways of working with AI through prototyping and directing AI, helping establish how design and AI can work together. Design is positioned as a strategic part of product development. The role involves close collaboration with founders and a global engineering team, early sharing of work, and co-creation. The position is based in the Bay Area and is full-time, on-site or hybrid. Visa sponsorship is available.

Requirements

Experience changing how a product is structured, not only how it looks.
Experience designing for AI or other systems where behavior is part of the interface.
Use AI in daily design practice, such as prototyping in code, Claude, Figma Make, or similar tools, with informed opinions on where it helps.
Strong UI craft, producing polished and considered work in service of clarity.
Strong writing ability, including product language.
Product mindset and concern for how the whole product fits together.
Ability to create structure from ambiguity.
Collaborative approach and comfort with feedback and co-creation.
Growth mindset and enjoyment of rapidly changing tools.
Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain the reasoning behind design structures.

Nice To Haves

Experience designing a product’s structure and ability to reflect on what you would do differently now.
Experience designing AI behavior and learning where it can be trusted.
Comfort with both mapping an object model and refining interaction details such as transitions.
Interest in creators, storytelling, and the evolving relationship between design and AI.

Responsibilities

Design the end-to-end experience of making work on OpenArt, from a creator’s initial idea to a finished result.
Enable creators to direct, observe, refine, and continue their work without losing context.
Design the AI agent’s behavior and communication, including how it asks questions, shows progress, and responds when it makes mistakes.
Organize creative work so experiments can grow into projects without requiring users to refile or relocate work.
Keep the product experience simple as new capabilities are added.
Prototype with AI, direct it, and help develop new ways for designers to work with AI.
Help shape product strategy and structure, collaborating with founders and engineers.
Write clear product language and design thoughtful details such as empty states, microcopy, and failure experiences.
