Lead Principal Product Manager

Oracle•Seattle, WA
•$119,200 - $264,100

About The Position

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is building capabilities that connect laboratory instruments, robotics, scientific applications, and cloud services. The Senior Principal Product Manager will lead product direction for laboratory automation and robotics, initially serving strategic scientific customers while developing capabilities that can scale to additional laboratories and workflows. This senior individual-contributor role owns product strategy, customer discovery, roadmap, and outcomes for a complex technical product area. The role works independently across engineering, applied science, design, customer teams, and automation partners to translate laboratory needs into a credible product and investment plan, combining detailed understanding of physical workflows with commercial judgment to build a repeatable offering.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Robotics, Life Sciences, Business, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10+ years of relevant product management experience, including substantial ownership of complex customer-facing products from discovery through delivery and adoption.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently lead product strategy, roadmaps, requirements, and investment recommendations across multiple engineering and partner teams.
  • Experience working directly with technically demanding customers and translating detailed operational workflows into scalable product capabilities and measurable outcomes.
  • Strong technical judgment in automation systems, workflow orchestration, cloud platforms, distributed systems, or products combining hardware and software, with the ability to engage engineers and architects on integration and operational tradeoffs.
  • Experience making consequential product decisions using customer research, usage data, pilot results, and business economics.
  • Strong written communication, executive presentation, negotiation, and cross-organizational influence.

Nice To Haves

  • Direct experience in laboratory automation, robotics, scientific instruments, industrial automation, or integrating physical systems with software.
  • Experience taking laboratory or scientific workflows from discovery through deployed pilots, production operation, and repeatable customer adoption.
  • Familiarity with life sciences research, laboratory informatics, equipment vendors, physical state, simulation, or recovery of interrupted automated procedures.
  • Experience with AI-enabled scientific workflows, agent evaluation, or governed automation, and with cloud product commercialization and partner ecosystems.

Responsibilities

  • Define product vision, strategy, roadmap, and investment recommendations for laboratory automation and robotics, balancing immediate customer commitments with reusable capabilities and broader adoption.
  • Work directly with scientists, laboratory operators, automation engineers, and customer leaders to observe workflows, identify constraints, and prioritize opportunities based on scientific value, throughput, operator effort, reliability, and deployment economics.
  • Own product definition from discovery through pilot, launch, adoption, and continuous improvement; define pilot scope, acceptance criteria, success measures, and evidence for further investment.
  • Define requirements for coordinating instruments, robots, materials, scientific applications, and human activities, including equipment state, resource availability, access, approvals, monitoring, exception handling, traceability, and recovery, while preserving local equipment control and safety authority.
  • Shape reusable integration and onboarding requirements for laboratory instruments, liquid handlers, robotic systems, vendor software, laboratory information management systems, and electronic laboratory notebooks; distinguish common product capabilities from customer configuration and custom integration work.
  • Partner with engineering leaders and architects on scope and sequencing; resolve tradeoffs across customer value, technical feasibility, safety, security, reliability, cost, and delivery time; coordinate shared requirements with the product owner for scientific computing and genomics.
  • Define useful applications of AI and agents in laboratory workflows with applied scientists and engineers, including requirements for evaluation, human oversight, and measurable scientific and operational benefit.
  • Develop market and competitive insight, product positioning, adoption plans, and business cases; work with commercial and customer teams on value propositions, packaging, pricing recommendations, and deployment models.
  • Measure workflow completion, operator intervention, instrument onboarding effort, reliability, utilization, adoption, and cost; use customer evidence and operational results to revise priorities and improve product economics.
  • Represent product strategy and recommendations to executives, customers, and partners; independently resolve complex issues across teams, mentor other product managers, and improve product practices without formal management authority.
