Product Manager Principal Lead

Capital Group•Irvine, CA

About The Position

Capital Group’s AI Transformation Incubator is a central innovation engine focused on identifying, piloting, and scaling a portfolio of 5–6 high-impact initiatives that reimagine end-to-end business processes using advanced AI. This technical product leadership role operates at the intersection of product, engineering, data, and enterprise transformation, turning ambitious AI ideas into valuable, scalable products for internal customers. The role is for a hands-on builder who can move from defining business problems and understanding user needs to prototyping with modern AI development tools and partnering with engineers and business teams to deliver products and measurable business impact. The product leader will shape product direction and architecture, work through enterprise technology constraints, and help successful experiments become production-ready products and reusable capabilities. The role also influences the technology capabilities and operating practices that enable Capital Group to scale AI products.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated builder mentality, including personally designing, prototyping, and shipping software, and comfort writing and reviewing code.
  • Strong product judgment: ability to identify valuable problems, understand users, make pragmatic tradeoffs, and distinguish technically interesting ideas from commercially meaningful opportunities.
  • Applied AI experience building or deploying AI-powered applications and understanding the engineering challenges of integrating models, enterprise data, APIs, and workflows into reliable systems.
  • Systems thinking across applications, data, infrastructure, identity, security, and integration layers, including the ability to identify root causes and architectural implications.
  • Creative problem-solving, resourcefulness, curiosity, and willingness to challenge conventional approaches and investigate blockers responsibly.
  • Exceptional influence and ability to earn credibility with senior engineers and executives, navigate organizational complexity, and constructively challenge established thinking.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and experience succeeding in entrepreneurial or fast-moving environments where the problem, technology, and path to production were not fully defined.
  • Sound risk judgment and ability to build quickly while respecting security, privacy, governance, and operational requirements in a regulated enterprise.

Responsibilities

  • Translate ambiguous business problems into working prototypes, experiments, and production-ready products.
  • Identify and work through technical constraints involving enterprise platforms, data access, integrations, infrastructure, and existing architecture.
  • Challenge assumptions about what is technically possible and offer creative alternatives and evidence-based recommendations.
  • Distinguish problems requiring fundamental architectural changes from those addressable through pragmatic engineering, configuration, or better execution.
  • Shape product direction and architecture in partnership with engineers, business stakeholders, and enterprise technology leaders.
  • Apply knowledge of modern AI systems, including LLMs, agentic workflows, orchestration, retrieval, evaluation, and observability.
  • Help teams make informed tradeoffs among technical complexity, business value, speed, reliability, and cost.
  • Identify opportunities to turn successful experiments into reusable services, frameworks, or capabilities for other incubator initiatives.
  • Work across business, engineering, architecture, infrastructure, security, and data teams to resolve dependencies and accelerate delivery.
  • Bring credible technical alternatives to discussions where platforms, standards, processes, or organizational boundaries constrain progress.
  • Build strong relationships with technology partners while constructively challenging decisions that may limit business outcomes.
