Senior Mechanical Analysis Engineer

ASML•Wilton, CT
•$150,000 - $222,000•Onsite

About The Position

As a Senior Mechanical Analysis Engineer, you will apply advanced analytical and numerical methods to predict and optimize complex opto-mechanical and electromechanical systems throughout feasibility, design, integration, qualification, and troubleshooting. You will develop models of appropriate fidelity, evaluate technical risks, correlate predictions with test data, and translate complex results into clear engineering recommendations. This is a senior technical role requiring analytical rigor, sound judgment, autonomy, and collaborative leadership. You will build trusted relationships across disciplines, influence decisions through expertise and credibility, mentor others, and advance ASML’s analysis methods and capabilities. The position is on-site in Wilton, Connecticut, to support teamwork, collaboration, innovation, testing, training, meetings, and other in-person work-related events. The role may require domestic or international travel of up to approximately 10%, depending on business needs. The position offers opportunities to expand engineering knowledge across application areas and solve complex technical problems with diverse teams. Career-development opportunities are available within a growing high-technology organization. The work may include cleanroom or laboratory duties, requiring cleanroom attire and safe work around lasers, ladders, platforms, chemicals, strong magnetic fields, and high voltages and currents. The role requires working to deadlines and adapting to changing technical and project priorities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of five years of progressive experience in engineering analysis, computational mechanics, complex mechanical-system development, physical sciences, or a related technical field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in finite element methods, solid mechanics, numerical methods, computational modeling, and physics-based problem solving.
  • Advanced experience in linear or nonlinear structural analysis, including contact, material or geometric nonlinearities, joints, stability, fatigue, or fracture.
  • Expertise in one or more additional areas, such as structural dynamics, vibration, transient response, heat transfer, thermal distortion, computational fluid dynamics, or Multiphysics simulation.
  • Experience verifying and correlating analytical models with experimental or qualification-test data.
  • World-class command of engineering mechanics, finite element methods, numerical methods, and physics-based modeling within one or more relevant technical disciplines.
  • Ability to identify dominant physical mechanisms and convert complex behavior into models appropriate to the engineering decision, technical risk, available data, and schedule.
  • Ability to establish, verify, validate, and clearly defend modeling assumptions, methods, uncertainties, limitations, and conclusions.
  • Strong mechanical intuition regarding load paths, interfaces, sensitivities, performance drivers, and failure modes.
  • Ability to solve multidisciplinary problems involving mechanical, thermal, fluid, electromagnetic, optical, or controls interactions.
  • Ability to evaluate tradeoffs and recommend practical solutions considering performance, manufacturability, serviceability, cost, safety, compliance, and schedule.
  • Ability to recognize technical gaps and define additional analysis, testing, or research required to resolve them.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical information clearly and credibly to audiences with different levels of expertise.
  • Ability to lead through technical competence, relationships, and influence rather than relying solely on formal authority.
  • Strong customer focus, attention to detail, technical integrity, and commitment to quality and timely delivery.
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in a demanding environment with changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated collaborative leadership through technical direction, peer review, mentoring, or coordination across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Must be willing to work in a cleanroom environment wearing coveralls, hoods, booties, safety glasses, and gloves, and to work under ISO 9000/14000 standards.
  • Must be capable of working safely around lasers, on ladders and platforms, around chemicals, near strong magnetic fields, and around high voltages and currents.
  • Must be legally authorized to access controlled technology, as defined in the United States Export Administration Regulations, before beginning work.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Applied Mechanics, Computational Engineering, Engineering Science, or a closely related discipline; a bachelor’s degree with substantial directly relevant analysis experience may be considered.
  • Experience with high-precision equipment, semiconductor equipment, opto-mechanical systems, mechatronics, aerospace systems, scientific instruments, or similarly complex products.
  • Experience with optimization, sensitivity analysis, uncertainty quantification, probabilistic methods, or reduced-order modeling.
  • Experience with ANSYS, Siemens NX/Simcenter, Abaqus, Nastran, or equivalent tools, together with Python, MATLAB, Mathematica, or similar technical computing environments.

Responsibilities

  • Translate system and module requirements into analysis objectives, assumptions, load cases, acceptance criteria, and verification strategies.
  • Develop analytical, finite element, reduced-order, and system-level models to predict performance and optimize complex mechanical and Multiphysics systems.
  • Perform advanced linear and nonlinear structural, thermal, dynamic, vibration, fluid, or coupled-physics analyses.
  • Select and defend modeling assumptions, material properties, interfaces, boundary conditions, mesh strategies, solver settings, and convergence criteria.
  • Verify and validate results through first-principles calculations, benchmarks, sensitivity and uncertainty assessments, independent checks, and test correlation.
  • Guide concept selection, detailed design, integration, and qualification by identifying performance drivers, technical risks, margins, and practical improvements.
  • Resolve test, manufacturing, and field issues through physics-based root-cause analysis and computational modeling.
  • Define the analysis, testing, measurements, and risk-retirement activities required to establish confidence in proposed designs.
  • Communicate methods, results, uncertainties, risks, and recommendations clearly to technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Build trusted cross-functional relationships, consider alternative perspectives, and influence decisions through expertise, listening, and constructive collaboration.
  • Provide technical direction, peer review, and mentoring to engineers, suppliers, consultants, and external partners.
  • Improve organizational capability through reusable methods, modeling standards, automation tools, and computational workflows.
  • Plan and deliver analysis activities while managing quality, schedules, dependencies, documentation, configuration traceability, and applicable EHS requirements.
