About The Position

AutoStore is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer specializing in simulation and analysis to make simulation a core part of how new hardware is designed. The role uses finite element analysis (FEA) and dynamic analysis to answer design questions early, guide trade-offs, and identify issues before they reach prototypes or the field. It also includes hands-on mechanical design in CAD and supporting hardware from rapid prototypes through pilot builds to production. The engineer will join the New Product Development Innovation Team in Atlanta and work closely with the Engineering Tools and Services team and the global Mechanical Simulation Center of Excellence. They will partner with mechanical designers, test engineers, and project leads on robots, grids, bins, and new products. The position also includes mentoring a new-graduate mechanical engineer and sharing reusable simulation methods and practices across R&D.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience applying mechanical simulation in product development; experience with electromechanical or robotic products is ideal.
  • Hands-on expertise with FEA tools such as Ansys Mechanical, Abaqus, Simcenter, or COMSOL Multiphysics, covering static, modal, dynamic, and nonlinear analysis.
  • Experience with explicit dynamics or multibody tools such as LS-DYNA, MSC Adams, or Simscape Multibody.
  • Strong understanding of solid mechanics, materials, fatigue, and contact, with sound judgment regarding meshing, boundary conditions, and model fidelity.
  • Experience correlating simulation with physical test data.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD such as SolidWorks, Creo, or NX, including creating and modifying parts, assemblies, and drawings.
  • Experience taking designs to production, including DFM/DFA, GD&T and tolerance analysis, material and process selection, and product compliance and safety standards.
  • Ability to clearly explain results and their uncertainty to engineers and non-specialists.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Python or MATLAB scripting to automate simulations and process results.
  • Thermal or CFD experience, such as Ansys Fluent or Icepak, Simcenter FloTHERM, or STAR-CCM+.
  • Experience with design of experiments, sensitivity analysis, or structural optimization.
  • Co-simulation experience, such as FMI/FMU, or familiarity with electrical, motor, or RF simulation tools.
  • Experience with physics-based robotics simulators such as NVIDIA Isaac Sim, Gazebo, or MuJoCo, synthetic data generation, or reinforcement learning environments.
  • Background in robotics, logistics automation, or other high-cycle electromechanical systems.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and run structural, dynamic, fatigue, and multibody simulations of AutoStore hardware, from components to full assemblies.
  • Partner with design engineers from concept onward to translate design questions into appropriate analyses and present clear recommendations.
  • Contribute to mechanical design in CAD by creating and modifying parts, assemblies, and drawings, and updating designs based on simulation results.
  • Support hardware through rapid prototyping, pilot builds, and production, including manufacturability, tolerance and material decisions, supplier questions, build issues, and compliance.
  • Mentor a new-graduate mechanical engineer in design, analysis, and prototyping work.
  • Validate models against laboratory and field test data, and communicate the limits and reliability of results.
  • Support test planning so physical tests can confirm and calibrate simulation results.
  • Run design studies, parameter sweeps, and optimization to explore trade-offs in weight, cost, stiffness, and durability.
  • Script and automate repetitive simulation workflows with the Engineering Tools and Services team.
  • Document methods, build reusable models, and share simulation practices across R&D.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans.
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) with a company contribution.
  • Generous paid time off, including 12 holidays, paid exercise time, paid volunteer time, and paid parental leave plans for all new parents.
  • Retirement 401(k) plan with employer match and discretionary profit-sharing contribution.
  • Educational assistance and professional development programs, including mentorship and coaching programs with external industry leaders.
  • Group life insurance and voluntary additional life insurance.
  • Disability insurance.
  • Employee Assistance programs.
