Senior Manufacturing Engineer – CNC Metrology & Probing Integration

GE Vernova•Greenville, SC
•$104,600 - $174,400•Onsite

About The Position

As a member of the Process Industrialization team, this senior technical role leads the definition, development, industrialization, and governance of advanced CNC probing and on-machine metrology solutions. The goal is to improve manufacturing capability, process consistency, productivity, and product quality across the assigned manufacturing area by reducing setup variation, strengthening process control, and enabling repeatable production processes for critical components. The role combines CNC programming, control logic, in-process measurement strategy, hardware integration, process validation, cross-functional problem solving, and technical leadership. It serves as the subject matter expert for production-ready probing applications, partnering with manufacturing, quality, operations, and engineering teams to deploy and sustain scalable solutions within SQDC (Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost) values. The position is 100% on site at GE Vernova in Greenville, South Carolina, and may require off-shift or flexible scheduling at times to meet project timelines. This role is restricted to U.S. persons because it requires access to export-controlled technology. GE Vernova requires proof of eligible status before employment; applicable offers are contingent on authorization to access U.S. export-controlled information. Candidates must also be legally authorized to work in the United States, and offers are conditioned on successful completion of a drug screen, as applicable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
  • At least 7 years of experience in CNC machining, CNC programming, manufacturing engineering, metrology, or a related production engineering role.
  • Significant experience developing and deploying CNC probing and machine-integrated metrology solutions in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with macro programming, custom probing logic, and implementing standardized routines across one or more CNC control platforms.
  • Experience with at least one major CNC control platform, such as Fanuc, Siemens, Okuma, or Haas.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate engineering drawings, GD&T, and critical product characteristics into practical manufacturing and measurement solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience leading technical problem solving, process improvement, and cross-functional implementation efforts.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to influence technical and operational teams.
  • Ability and desire to work on site in a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work off-shift or on a flexible schedule at times, as required by project timelines.
  • Must qualify as a U.S. person for access to export-controlled technology and provide proof of status before employment.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; an offer is conditioned on successful completion of a drug screen, as applicable.

Nice To Haves

  • Deep experience with machine probing systems such as Renishaw, Blum, Hexagon, or equivalent.
  • Strong experience with macro programming, custom probing routines, and advanced CNC control logic.
  • Strong experience with Fanuc Custom Macro B and working knowledge of Siemens Sinumerik, Okuma OSP, Haas, or equivalent probing environments.
  • Experience developing and standardizing probing routines for multi-axis and complex geometry applications.
  • Strong understanding of metrology principles, including repeatability, reproducibility, bias, linearity, stability, correlation, and measurement capability.
  • Experience leading Gauge R&R, MSA, SPC, or related measurement-system validation activities.
  • Familiarity with statistical tools such as Minitab, JMP, or equivalent.
  • Experience with process documentation, control plans, FMEA/PFMEA, validation, and structured problem-solving methods.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor others, influence technical standards, and drive adoption of best practices.
  • Experience in aerospace, gas turbine, power generation, medical, or other high-precision manufacturing environments.
  • Lean / Six Sigma certification or equivalent continuous improvement experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development, implementation, and continuous improvement of probing routines for part setup, work offset setting, part alignment, in-process feature verification, and tool checking across production CNC platforms.
  • Own and govern machine-level probing logic, macros, and standardized routines to improve consistency, reduce setup dependency, and strengthen process control.
  • Define and expand closed-loop machining applications that use probing data to update work offsets, coordinate alignment, and tool wear offsets where appropriate.
  • Develop and approve probing strategies for complex features, including multi-axis and non-orthogonal geometries, considering product requirements, process capability, and machine constraints.
  • Provide technical leadership for installation, calibration, troubleshooting, sustainment, and performance optimization of spindle probes, tool setters, and related machine-integrated metrology hardware.
  • Establish and maintain standard methods, programming practices, recovery procedures, validation requirements, and best practices for probing applications.
  • Translate drawing requirements, GD&T, and critical product characteristics into on-machine measurement strategies that support process capability and product conformity.
  • Partner with quality and manufacturing teams to define validation approaches for on-machine measurement performance, including repeatability studies, data correlation, bias assessment, and process verification.
  • Lead investigation of probing-related failures, instability, and process variation using structured root-cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Create and govern work instructions, setup documentation, validation records, control plans, training materials, and other documentation needed to sustain standardized probing applications.
  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert for CNC probing and machine-integrated metrology, mentoring programmers, engineers, and operators in standardized methods, troubleshooting, and effective system use.
  • Lead cross-functional efforts with engineering, operations, and quality teams to deploy scalable, sustainable probing and metrology solutions in production.
  • Identify and prioritize opportunities to improve manufacturing capability, setup efficiency, process robustness, and inspection effectiveness through advanced probing and standardized metrology practices.
