Senior Manager, Senior Counsel - Premium Products & Experiences Product Counsel
About The Position
The Capital One Legal Department is seeking a Senior Manager, Senior Counsel to support the Premium Products & Experiences (PPX) team, with a focus on the premium credit card business. The role provides legal advice to a team developing products, benefits, and features intended to deliver differentiated value to customers. It involves partnering with the business on strategy and brainstorming, understanding business intent, evaluating legal and business risks, and advising on initiatives, multi-faceted marketing strategies, and customer experiences. The position works collaboratively with attorneys supporting the broader Premium Products and Experiences business line and builds working relationships across the Card Legal team and Legal Department. It includes regular interactions with senior business partners, Legal Department subject matter experts, and other business attorneys in a fast-paced environment. The role is hybrid, with associates expected to work onsite three days per week in an office listed in the posting. Listed office locations are McLean, Virginia; Richmond, Virginia; and Riverwoods, Illinois.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school.
- Active member in good standing of at least one state bar.
- At least 5 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm environment, at a government agency, as a military judge advocate, or as in-house counsel.
- Strong legal and business analytical skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to organize and communicate legal risk efficiently and effectively, focusing on what matters to responsibly advance business initiatives.
Nice To Haves
- At least 6 years of attorney experience in a law firm, in-house legal department, as a military judge advocate, or at a government agency, ideally involving consumer regulatory, consumer financial services, or fintech industries.
- Expertise in or significant experience with consumer financial regulatory laws, marketing and advertising laws, and/or general risk management.
- Ability to work in a dynamic environment and adapt to changing needs.
- Ability to build collegial and effective relationships with attorneys, business managers, creative teams, analysts, project managers, and corporate compliance professionals, and cooperate to resolve issues smoothly.
- Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple simultaneous deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence others.
Responsibilities
- Identify and assess legal risks associated with Capital One’s premium credit card business.
- Develop an in-depth understanding of the business and interpret laws, regulations, and legal requirements for business teams, while communicating business intent to the Legal team and legal subject matter experts.
- Actively engage with colleagues to provide legal support as part of a collaborative, cross-functional team.
- Work with PPX, Card, Brand, the Business Risk Office, Corporate Communications, and Compliance stakeholders to address risks, develop creative solutions, and resolve issues.
- Advise on business initiatives, multi-faceted marketing strategies, and customer experiences.
