Senior Product Manager, Data Products

Mural
•$177,160 - $221,450

About The Position

As a Senior Product Manager on Mural’s Govern & Trust team, you will define the metrics that describe how Mural creates value and establish them as a shared foundation for internal product decisions, customer-facing Insights, and the reporting API and MCP server. The role begins with raw product events: determining what metrics measure, how they are calculated, and what data structures internal teams and customers need to rely on them. You will then translate those metrics into experiences that help organizations understand and grow their use of Mural. You will shape the evolution of Mural’s data products, define shared cross-product metrics and standards, support internal product analytics, and own the strategy and roadmap for customer-facing data products. You will also guide customer and AI-agent access to reporting data, and set instrumentation requirements in partnership with R&D and Data Engineering. Data Engineering builds and operates the metric layer; you determine its contents and evolution.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of product management experience.
  • Shipped at least one analytics or reporting product used by paying business customers, and defined the metrics behind it.
  • Track record of making messy or conflicting data trustworthy, including reconciling definitions, writing build-ready metric specifications, and driving upstream instrumentation changes.
  • Experience building platform products for internal teams or developers and end-user-facing data products such as analytics, reporting, or insights.
  • Working knowledge of modern data stacks, including event pipelines, warehouses and lakehouses, dbt-style modeling, and semantic layers.
  • Ability to write SQL and retrieve data independently.
  • Ability to reach agreement on definitions across teams not directly managed, including product management, data engineering, analytics, finance, and go-to-market.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with enterprise admin or governance products, such as IAM, security, compliance, or audit.
  • Hands-on experience with semantic layer tools such as dbt Semantic Layer, Cube, or LookML.
  • Experience designing APIs, MCP servers, or connectors for analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Shape the evolution of Mural’s data products from retrospective reporting toward insights that guide future action, working across the Govern & Trust portfolio.
  • Define shared cross-product metrics, including activity, collaboration, and adoption, and establish standards for product teams to define and publish metrics consistently.
  • Partner with domain product managers on north-star metrics and make product data easier for them to explore independently.
  • Work with Business Analytics to align product-facing and business-facing reporting.
  • Own the strategy and roadmap for Insights, including in-product reporting and dashboards, exports and APIs, audit logs, and the methodology behind customer-facing metrics.
  • Package and launch Mural’s customer-facing reporting MCP server, determining the data it exposes, plan availability, and applicable guardrails.
  • Define how natural-language and agent-driven analysis extends Insights.
  • Set per-product instrumentation requirements for event granularity and retention, accounting for differences among audit logs, activity data, and product analytics.
  • Partner with Data Engineering on event standards so metrics are built on reliable data.
  • Raise the bar for events emitted by R&D teams, which own event emission.

Benefits

  • Reasonable accommodations are available for individuals with disabilities to participate in the application or interview process, perform essential job functions, and receive other benefits and privileges of employment.
