Lead a distributed network engineering team supporting an enterprise network across AWS, Azure, on-premises data centers, and office locations. Improve network reliability, resiliency, scalability, standardization, automation, security, and lifecycle management. The environment has evolved through company growth and acquisitions; the initial focus is to understand its current state and pain points, set a prioritized modernization roadmap, and establish consistent enterprise architecture and operating standards. Lead approximately three U.S.-based team members and two team members in India. Establish clear ownership, use the team’s existing knowledge, develop engineers, and provide technical direction without becoming the primary engineer for routine work. The role requires technical credibility, including reviewing network architecture, challenging routing and resiliency decisions, participating in complex troubleshooting, and joining high-severity incident calls when needed. Near-term priorities include supporting on-premises-to-AWS migrations, separating network environments in connection with organizational changes, stabilizing office and data center networks, identifying operational improvements, and developing a longer-term modernization plan. AWS networking includes AWS Cloud WAN, centralized networking, a multi-region foundation, and Palo Alto capacity in AWS. Broader adoption of multi-region patterns by business applications remains an opportunity; the immediate concern is the maturity and resiliency of data center and office environments. Assess configuration management and network automation opportunities. The goal is controlled, repeatable, documented network changes using Infrastructure as Code, version control, peer review, or comparable enterprise engineering practices; a specific automation tool is not required. Partner with cloud platform engineering, application teams, architecture, security, infrastructure, network operations, and business stakeholders. Maintain current operations while building a more resilient, observable, automated, and enterprise-ready network environment. The formal role also covers lifecycle management, data center decommissioning, incident readiness, disaster recovery, operational documentation, carrier management, and executive reporting. This is a contract-to-hire position listed as hybrid in Remote, Oregon. The hourly pay range is $75.00–$90.00. Eligible benefits for this temporary role may include medical, dental, and vision coverage; critical illness, accident, and hospital coverage; a 401(k) retirement plan; life insurance; short- and long-term disability; a health spending account; transportation benefits; an employee assistance program; and time off or leave. Eligibility and plan terms apply.
