About The Position

IREN is a vertically integrated AI Cloud provider that builds, owns, and operates data centers and GPU clusters. The Network Engineering Manager (AI HPC) leads the US network engineering team, which is around 10–20 engineers, and is accountable for network delivery across US sites and for developing and growing the team. This hands-on technical leadership role requires the ability to contribute to fabric design reviews and troubleshooting while focusing primarily on building a strong, effective team and bringing GPU capacity online quickly and reliably. The manager leads network delivery for US AI data center builds, from design and bill of materials through installation, cabling, configuration, validation, and handover. The role works with program management, construction, electrical, data center operations, and vendors to coordinate schedules and readiness, manage risks, and maintain standards. It also includes team hiring and development, capacity planning, operational improvement, and reporting on delivery and team health. The position is remote and based in the US, with regular travel to data center sites and flexible hours during critical builds and incidents.

Requirements

  • At least 10 years of network engineering experience.
  • At least 3 years of direct experience managing engineers, including hiring, performance reviews, and career development.
  • A track record of developing engineers through hiring, coaching, and promotion, and of building teams that can deliver without the manager’s involvement in every detail.
  • Experience growing a technical team through hiring, including defining roles, conducting structured interviews and technical assessments, and onboarding new starters.
  • Deep hands-on experience with large-scale data center networks, including Layer 2/3 technologies such as VLANs, VXLAN, BGP EVPN, OSPF, and IS-IS, and Clos/ECMP fabric design.
  • Experience delivering network builds for new data centers or major expansions to fixed dates, working with construction, electrical, and operations teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including explaining technical risks and trade-offs to non-network stakeholders and senior leaders.
  • Strong ownership mindset and a positive attitude.
  • Based in the US.
  • Able to travel regularly to data center sites and work flexible hours during critical builds and incidents.

Nice To Haves

  • AI/HPC networking experience, including NVIDIA InfiniBand, Spectrum-X, and RoCEv2 (PFC, ECN, and lossless fabric tuning), with an understanding of NVLink/NVSwitch.
  • Experience with network hardware and operating systems from NVIDIA, Arista, Cisco, Dell, and Fortinet; Cumulus Linux, SONiC, NX-OS, and EOS.
  • Network automation and infrastructure as code experience using Python, Ansible, Terraform, and Git/GitLab CI, including leading a team’s transition from manual to automated provisioning and validation.
  • Experience with fiber and optical infrastructure, including single-mode/multimode, DWDM/CWDM, and structured cabling at scale.
  • Industry certifications such as CCIE, JNCIE, or NVIDIA networking certifications, or a history of supporting engineers through certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of around 12 network engineers through regular 1:1s, clear goals, and timely feedback.
  • Own hiring for the US team, including planning headcount and levels, conducting structured interviews and technical assessments, and closing candidates.
  • Build a learning culture through design and peer reviews, blameless post-incident reviews, knowledge sharing, and support for vendor training and certifications.
  • Plan capacity across concurrent builds and operational work; balance workload, travel, and on-call responsibilities and cross-train the team.
  • Own network delivery for US AI data center builds from design and bill of materials through installation, cabling, configuration, validation, and handover against agreed capacity dates.
  • Coordinate schedules, rack layouts, cabling plans, and readiness with technical program managers, construction, electrical, data center operations, and vendors; raise risks early and present options.
  • Set and maintain standards for change control, documentation, acceptance testing, and handover to operations.
  • Report on delivery and team health, including build progress, acceptance test results, incident trends, automation coverage, hiring, and retention.
  • Contribute hands-on expertise to fabric design reviews and difficult troubleshooting calls.
  • Develop team standards and practices that support reliable, repeatable delivery across US sites.
