About The Position

The Innovation and Commercialization unit within the Division of Research & Innovation, empowers researchers to transform discoveries into products, services, and companies. The team provides university researchers with services to support navigating the intellectual property and patent processes, development of licensing agreements with strategic industry partners, mentorship in creating startups and pursuing entrepreneurship, and administering commercialization education programs that help forge paths from academic innovation to real-world application. The Senior Licensing Analyst supports the development, negotiation, and management of intellectual property (IP) licensing agreements. Working under the supervision of the Director Innovation & Commercialization, this role assists in evaluating and marketing technologies, supporting commercialization strategies, and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders. This position requires expertise in negotiation and management of IP licensing agreements and portfolios, and the marketing and commercialization of patented technologies to external partners.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, science, engineering, law, or a related field and five (5) years of professional experience in licensing, technology transfer, or business development; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Knowledge of intellectual property concepts (patents, trademarks, copyrights)
  • Strong analytical, research, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as university's subject matter expert in Intellectual Property (IP) management, negotiation, and documentation. Drafts and negotiates the terms of complex licensing agreements; and coordinates with appropriate UNT personnel and unit leadership on final execution of licensing agreements.
  • Manages a portfolio of technologies, including technical, market, and IP evaluation. Evaluates industry needs by building a network of industry contacts and collaborating with UNT researchers.
  • Maintain database management of Inteum (IP management software) for inputting and tracking licensing agreements and performance milestones to ensure compliance with contracted terms.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by supervisor.
