Senior Game Designer

Electronic Arts•Vancouver, BC

About The Position

Electronic Arts is hiring a Senior Game Designer for a team developing creative tools and systems that let players create, share, discover, and safely engage with content. The role owns the systems that connect gameplay mechanics and creation to a lasting player and creator community, including progression, economies, rewards, rulesets, and creator-facing systems. These systems must remain stable and engaging at scale, including when millions of players and thousands of creators interact with them in unexpected ways. AI agents are part of the team's toolchain. The designer will use agents to simulate, stress-test, and analyze systems, and help establish rules and safeguards for agentic features used by creators and players. The role also works closely with engineering, research, and leadership to translate product and research goals into production-ready systems, supported by telemetry, analysis, diagrams, and automated validation.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional game design experience, including shipped titles where the candidate owned progression, economy, or rules systems in a AAA engine such as Frostbite, Unity, Unreal, Godot, or a proprietary engine.
  • Experience with quantitative modeling, including probability, statistics, and simulation.
  • Scripting and data skills, including Python and SQL, plus engine scripting such as Lua, Blueprint, or C# for data-driven systems.
  • Working knowledge of gameplay domains such as character, controls, UI, physics, and animation.
  • Experience using AI coding or agentic tools in a real production or analysis workflow.
  • Experience with telemetry and analytics tooling, including defining events, building dashboards, and using data to make design decisions.
  • Experience becoming productive quickly in large, unfamiliar game projects and data pipelines.
  • Experience collaborating on product vision and research goals with engineering and leadership.
  • Proficiency with design tools such as Miro and Figma for system diagrams and flows.
  • Comfort working in CI/CD environments such as Jenkins or GitLab and owning data-validation and balance tests.
  • Proficiency with version control tools such as Perforce or Git.

Nice To Haves

  • Live-service economy design, especially on creator or UGC platforms, or creator reward and monetization programs.
  • Experience with trust and safety, moderation, or reputation systems.
  • Experience designing evaluations or scoring rubrics for AI/LLM-powered features.

Responsibilities

  • Design, model, and maintain scalable, stable, and engaging game systems.
  • Align systems design with engine architecture, data pipelines, and technical strategy, defining data schemas and configuration structures with engineering.
  • Refine player and creator journeys across sessions and throughout the player lifetime.
  • Define telemetry, KPIs, and health metrics for systems, and analyze whether those systems are working.
  • Build and run agent-driven simulations of player personas, economies, and creator behavior to check balance and identify failure states before launch.
  • Design rules, permissions, and safety constraints for creator-made content and agentic creator tools.
  • Identify systemic risks and provide clear mitigation plans.
  • Contribute to engine, content, agentic, and research initiatives, translating research goals into production-ready systems.
  • Create system diagrams, flow models, and automated balance and data-validation test suites.
