Game Level Designer

Tripledot Studios•Dallas, TX
•$80,000 - $105,000•Hybrid

About The Position

PeopleFun’s New Games Team is seeking a Level Designer to create, tune, and ship levels for original casual mobile games aimed at a mass-market audience. The role focuses on designing memorable early-game content and developing progression ramps that keep players engaged over time. The team uses a hypothesis-first approach to test market ideas, with player feedback guiding what comes next. As part of a small, senior-heavy incubation team, the designer’s work can reach real players within weeks and may span multiple prototypes at different stages.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years of professional level design experience on casual games, or at least 3 years of professional experience in related disciplines on mobile games.
  • Hands-on experience building levels with level editors.
  • Comfort with Unity and basic game-development tools such as source control.
  • Working knowledge of level design fundamentals, including progression, pacing, difficulty curves, and onboarding (FTUE).
  • Demonstrated experience revising designs in response to playtest feedback.
  • Clear written and verbal communication of design intent and ability to collaborate with artists, animators, engineers, and product partners.
  • Ability to work on a hybrid schedule from the Dallas-area office.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience shipping levels in a puzzle, word, block, or match game, with shareable samples such as level breakdowns, ramp sheets, or a portfolio.
  • Experience reading level funnels and tuning from data; familiarity with Looker, BigQuery, Tableau, or similar tools.
  • Experience prototyping new mechanics with AI, on paper, or in whitebox before engineering investment.
  • Fluency with spreadsheets for authoring and tuning content, including formulas, ramp tables, and parameter sheets.
  • Experience taking a game from prototype through soft launch or working on an incubation team.
  • Scripting experience in C# or Python, or experience with procedural or AI-assisted content generation.
  • Experience designing or evaluating A/B tests on level content.
  • Recent examples of prototypes or useful tools created by prompting AI.
  • A habit of playing current top-grossing casual games, explaining why they work, and identifying salient innovations.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and tune levels in Unity or custom level editors, and use AI prompting to improve those tools.
  • Shape player progression across level ramps by introducing mechanics and pacing difficulty, including balancing harder levels with easier breather levels.
  • Invent goals, blockers, and boosters for existing games and validate them with sample puzzle layouts or prototypes.
  • Use playtests to identify where players struggle or lose interest, then revise levels accordingly.
  • Review level metrics such as attempts, win rate, completion time, and drop-off with data partners, and retune level ramps for each release.
  • Regularly play and analyze leading casual games, sharing applicable lessons with the team.
  • Maintain shared documentation of level design intent, featured mechanics, target difficulty, and level metrics or analysis.
  • Partner with engineers to improve games, including procedural and AI-assisted level generation.
  • Work across two or more prototypes at different stages and quickly move on from work when testing indicates a pivot.

Benefits

  • Flexible Discretionary Time Off in addition to bank holidays.
  • Generous 401k match.
  • Discretionary bonuses.
  • Competitive salaries.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.
  • Employee Assistance Program with confidential support.
