About The Position

Join our team of leaders in electrical power system maintenance, repair, testing, engineering, & training. Due to continued growth, we are seeking an experienced NETA Field Service Technician. Shermco Industries is accredited by NETA and has one of the largest field services divisions in the industry. Shermco Industries is seeking a NETA Field Service Technician, Senior.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience performing switchgear testing & troubleshooting.
  • Good PC skills including email, internet, data entry and Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to work safely and adhere to all electrical safety procedures.
  • Ability to drive daily locally/regionally and be available for periodic overnight travel.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and periodic, unannounced random drug tests.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
  • Ability to crawl, climb, stand and lift up to 100 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Ability to pass a fit for duty physical exam.
  • Valid driver’s license, and currently have and be able to maintain a good driving record.
  • Availability for regular overnight domestic travel and occasional international travel.
  • Eligibility to work in the U.S. without need for employer sponsored visa (work permit).
  • Willingness to travel.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited 2 year technical college in Electrical Power & Controls (EPC), or an EE Degree from an ABET accredited college, similar experience and training from the military (Army Prime Power, Air Force Electrical Power Production, or NAVY Seabee).
  • NETA Certification (III or IV) or similar desired.
  • Electrician license preferred.
  • Proficiency in testing both electro-mechanical and solid-state relays.
  • Experience with PowerDB.
  • OSHA 30 hour, MSHA, NFPA 70-E, CPR/First Aid/BBP/AED training (training on each can be provided by Shermco).
  • U.S. passport & TWIC card.

Responsibilities

  • Travel to customer sites (industrial & commercial) to inspect, test, troubleshoot, perform start-up and collect data of low, medium and high voltage (480 Volt to 600 kV) electrical systems.
  • Travel to customer job sites across the state and bordering states.
  • Perform instrument transformer tests.
  • Perform power transformer testing - Doble, TTR, Insulation Resistance, etc.
  • Perform cable testing - Tan Delta, Power Factor, VLF, DC Hipot.
  • Troubleshoot automatic transfer switches.
  • Perform low, medium and high voltage switchgear and circuit breaker testing.
  • Perform moderately complex relay calibration and power metering.
  • Rotate emergency on-call duty and respond to customer emergencies in a timely manner if called.
