Senior Electrical Engineer (Power and Analog)

Rocketdyne•Redmond, WA
•$120,000 - $180,000

About The Position

The Senior Electrical Engineer designs, analyzes, and tests power and analog electronics for space applications, including satellites, spacecraft, and future lunar power infrastructure. The role covers power, low-voltage analog, high-voltage analog, mixed-signal, and digital control electronics, with converters ranging from tens of watts to hundreds of kilowatts. Experience across the entire range is not required. Candidates with power-conversion experience or analog/mixed-signal design backgrounds are welcome, including those interested in developing power-electronics expertise. A significant portion of the role is focused on Internal Research and Development (IRAD), exploring new topologies, architectures, and components for next-generation space power systems. The engineer works hands-on from initial design through hardware testing and collaborates with firmware, FPGA, and cross-functional teams. The position also supports qualification, production transition, troubleshooting, design reviews, technical documentation, and informal mentoring.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field with 6 or more years of relevant experience; or a master’s degree with 4 or more years; or 10 or more years of directly relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Experience designing and analyzing electronic circuits (power or analog/mixed signal), including simulation, analysis, and testing or troubleshooting.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Must be able to obtain a U.S. security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience designing power converters or electronics, especially for demanding environments such as space, aerospace, automotive, or industrial.
  • Proficiency in control-loop analysis and tuning, including Gain/Phase and PID.
  • Familiarity with digitally controlled power converters, microcontrollers, FPGAs, or DSPs, and embedded control concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Design and analyze power, analog, and mixed-signal circuitry.
  • Perform schematic capture, simulation, tolerance and worst-case analysis, and guide PCB layout.
  • Perform initial hardware power-up, performance verification, and debugging.
  • Analyze circuit behavior and stability; perform power-converter loop analysis and compensation as applicable.
  • Execute IRAD tasks, including trade studies, feasibility studies, simulations, and proof-of-concept prototypes.
  • Collaborate with firmware and FPGA engineers on digital controls; define requirements and interfaces, and support control algorithm implementation.
  • Support qualification, production transition, and troubleshooting for assigned hardware.
  • Participate in design reviews, document technical decisions, and provide informal mentoring and peer support.
