About The Position

The AirPods team is seeking an Analog Systems Engineer to drive the design, development, and delivery of next-generation products. As the power and battery management expert, this role works at the center of cross-functional collaboration and technical decision-making, shaping power architectures and guiding critical subsystems from early concept through mass production. The engineer owns and assists with end-to-end development of power and battery management subsystems. The role establishes subsystem architecture through tradeoff studies, tolerance analysis, power and signal integrity simulations, and system modeling. It works with cross-functional teams on component selection, schematic and layout reviews, hardware/firmware integration guidance, and system specifications. The engineer also partners with silicon vendors on development, bring-up, and characterization of PMICs and charger ICs; authors hardware specifications; evaluates vendor datasheets; and supports engineering prototyping. Responsibilities across the development cycle include hands-on hardware and firmware debugging and driving silicon, system, and manufacturing validation to support reliable scale-up from engineering builds to mass production.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, and 2+ years of experience in analog/mixed-signal hardware design.
  • Deep understanding of power mixed-signal building blocks, including PMICs, DC-DC switching converters, LDOs, chargers, batteries, PCM, ADC/DAC, temperature sensors, LED drivers, and ultra-low-power design.
  • Strong analog/mixed-signal analysis skills, including tolerance analysis, power and signal integrity simulations, timing sequencing, specification compliance, and system modeling.
  • Proficiency in bench testing and using equipment such as oscilloscopes, power supplies, electronic loads, and DMMs for silicon and system validation.
  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal and presentation skills, with the ability to drive alignment across hardware, firmware, and silicon teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing low-power, high-volume consumer products.
  • Experience using AI tools and automation to accelerate design analysis, simulation, hardware characterization, and validation workflows.
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Matlab and Python.
  • Familiarity with SPICE-based simulation tools.
  • Familiarity with digital interfaces such as I2C, SPI, and UART.
  • Familiarity with the development process for new silicon.

  • Establish subsystem architectures through tradeoff studies, tolerance analysis, simulations for power and signal integrity, and system modeling.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on component selection, schematic and layout reviews, hardware/firmware integration guidance, and system specifications.
  • Partner with silicon vendors to drive development, bring-up, and characterization of PMICs and charger ICs.
  • Author hardware specifications and evaluate vendor datasheets.
  • Support engineering prototyping.
  • Perform hands-on hardware and firmware debugging.
  • Drive silicon, system, and manufacturing validation to ensure reliable scaling from engineering builds to mass production.
