About The Position

The Lead Systems Integration Engineer will set the technical direction for system electrical engineering on an AirPods program. The role anchors architecture decisions, raises the bar for hardware design and validation, and ensures challenging decisions are made rigorously. The engineer acts as a force multiplier for the team by unblocking and enabling colleagues, elevating their work, and serving as a trusted voice across engineering, manufacturing, and leadership. The AirPods System Integration team develops and ships the electronics inside small-form-factor audio products, working across physical architecture, wireless, and silicon technologies. This role contributes to the next generation of AirPods and supports products used by millions of customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent directly related work experience.
  • At least 8 years of relevant industry experience designing electronic and/or embedded systems.
  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals across analog, digital, power, and signal integrity.
  • Track record of leading complex system decisions to closure.
  • Experience shipping at least one high-volume consumer product end-to-end, from architecture through mass production, including working with contract manufacturers.
  • Demonstrated hands-on laboratory and debugging experience across the full product lifecycle.

Nice To Haves

  • Track record of shaping team operations, including tools, workflows, and frameworks that focus effort on priorities and divide work efficiently.
  • Ability to translate high-level direction into concrete plans and deliverables and bring other engineers along.
  • Ability to evaluate emerging technologies, including silicon roadmaps, wireless standards, sensing, and materials, and assess their implications for future AirPods generations.
  • Comfort making measured decisions amid ambiguity and incomplete data, with a track record of decisions that held up.
  • Excellent communication and executive presence, including the ability to explain complex electrical trade-offs to non-electrical-engineering audiences and land decisions across engineering, operations, and leadership.
