About The Position

The Lead Systems Integration Engineer will set the technical direction for system electrical engineering on an AirPods program. The role leads electrical architecture decisions and guides the design, validation, and integration of hardware from concept through mass production. It provides technical leadership to electrical engineers, raises engineering standards, and helps resolve complex cross-functional decisions across silicon, RF, power, audio, sensors, mechanical, software, and manufacturing. The engineer also represents the electrical system to silicon partners, contract manufacturers, engineering leadership, and executives. Occasional international travel is required to support builds and manufacturing activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent directly related work experience.
  • At least 8 years of relevant industry experience designing electronic and/or embedded systems.
  • Deep electrical engineering fundamentals across analog, digital, power, and signal integrity, with a record of leading complex system decisions to closure.
  • Experience shipping at least one high-volume consumer product end-to-end, from architecture through mass production, including work with contract manufacturers.
  • Demonstrated hands-on laboratory and debugging experience across the full product lifecycle.
  • A track record of shaping team operations through tools, workflows, and frameworks that focus effort and divide work efficiently across engineers.
  • Ability to turn high-level direction into concrete plans and deliverables and bring other engineers along.
  • Ability to evaluate emerging technologies, including silicon roadmaps, wireless standards, sensing, and materials, and assess their implications for future AirPods generations.
  • Comfort making measured decisions amid ambiguity and incomplete data, with a record of decisions that held up.
  • Excellent communication and executive presence, including the ability to explain complex electrical trade-offs to non-electrical-engineering audiences and secure decisions across engineering, operations, and leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the electrical architecture of an AirPods program, including partitioning, power, wireless, and silicon integration decisions from concept through mass production.
  • Conduct rigorous design and validation reviews, establish high technical standards, and codify reusable team best practices.
  • Mentor and technically guide electrical engineers, unblock difficult problems, grow team expertise, and uphold the design-review bar.
  • Drive end-to-end technical decisions and cross-functional trade-offs across silicon, RF, power, audio, sensors, mechanical, software, and manufacturing.
  • Lead top-issue and failure-analysis reviews; drive root-cause analysis across silicon, RF, power, and mechanical domains; and implement fixes suited to high-volume production.
  • Introduce processes and tools that remain useful beyond a single product.
  • Drive the program’s technical rhythm, including top issues, risk tracking, and weekly status updates and escalations to engineering leadership and executives.
  • Represent the electrical system to silicon partners and contract manufacturers, building alignment on strategy, escalations, and technical decisions.
  • Travel occasionally, including internationally, to support builds and manufacturing activities.
