About The Position

The UCSF Facilities Services Department (FS) maintains the campus physical environment in support of the University’s research, teaching, health care, and community service mission. FS employs more than 460 professional staff and is organized into seven operating units, including Custodial Services. The department supports campus-wide P.R.I.D.E. values and the Principles of Community, and expects its leaders to foster a fair, equitable, safe, and supportive work environment.

Under the supervision of the Custodial Assistant Superintendent, the Senior Custodian cleans interior and exterior campus spaces. The role includes handling trash and recyclables, replenishing dispensers, reporting building equipment and supply needs, securing assigned spaces, performing specialized cleaning in laboratory and medical areas, and moving, setting up, and taking down furniture and appliances as needed.

Requirements

• Six months of experience in custodial cleaning operations, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• Ability to read and communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to speak clearly in English and follow written and oral instructions in English.
• Excellent customer service skills.
• Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations.
• Ability to use powered and manual floor-cleaning and polishing equipment, as well as dollies, hoists, and other moving aids.
• Knowledge of and ability to apply appropriate cleaning methods, including specialized procedures and techniques for laboratory and medical spaces.
• Knowledge of applicable security regulations and ability to follow established security protocols.

• Current valid California Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

• Clean internal and external campus spaces.
• Load and unload trash receptacles and collect and transport recyclable materials.
• Fill soap and towel dispensers.
• Report building equipment and supply needs.
• Ensure the security of assigned spaces and follow established security protocols.
• Perform specialized cleaning in laboratory and medical spaces.
• Move, set up, and take down furniture and appliances as required.
