About The Position

The Senior Custodian is responsible for cleaning and maintaining Housing Works’ Cylar House property and grounds. The role includes painting, plastering, carpentry, minor plumbing, and mechanical repairs to building fixtures, equipment, and hardware. The Senior Custodian also performs and assists with apartment turnovers, work orders, and other assigned maintenance and repair tasks.

Requirements

• Experience with and proven commitment to working with low-income and marginalized communities, as well as individuals with multiple chronic medical and/or behavioral health conditions.
• Ability to think critically and exercise good judgment, and to work independently and collaboratively with minimal day-to-day supervision in a fast-paced environment.
• Exceptional computer software skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and working familiarity with Salesforce or similar platforms.

Nice To Haves

• High school diploma or GED preferred.

Responsibilities

• Follow the custodial and preventative maintenance plan to keep common spaces, bathrooms, offices, residential spaces, laundry rooms, and grounds clean, sanitary, and properly stocked with supplies.
• Put out building trash in accordance with New York City guidelines.
• Assist with apartment and room turnovers by cleaning and preparing apartments for new residents.
• Use trade skills to perform minor repairs, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, roofing, and heating and cooling work.
• Perform painting, plastering, carpentry, minor plumbing, and mechanical repairs to building fixtures, equipment, and hardware.
• Perform and assist with work orders and other assigned maintenance and repair tasks.
