About The Position

The Senior Custodian is responsible for cleaning and maintaining Housing Works’ Cylar House property and grounds. The role includes performing painting, plastering, carpentry, minor plumbing, and mechanical repairs to building fixtures, equipment, and hardware. The Senior Custodian also performs and assists with apartment turnovers, work orders, and other assigned maintenance and repair tasks.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Experience with and demonstrated commitment to working with low-income and marginalized communities and people with multiple chronic medical and/or behavioral health conditions.
• Ability to think critically and exercise good judgment.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with minimal day-to-day supervision in a fast-paced environment.
• Exceptional computer software skills, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
• Working familiarity with Salesforce or similar platforms.

Responsibilities

• Follow the custodial and preventative maintenance plan to keep common spaces, bathrooms, offices, residential spaces, laundry rooms, and grounds clean, sanitary, and stocked with supplies.
• Put out building trash in accordance with NYC guidelines.
• Assist with apartment and room turnovers by cleaning and preparing apartments for new residents.
• Use trade skills to perform minor repairs, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, roofing, and heating and cooling work.
• Perform painting, plastering, carpentry, minor plumbing, and mechanical repairs to building fixtures, equipment, and hardware.
• Complete work orders and other maintenance and repair tasks as assigned.
