CompassX GroupLos Angeles, CA
$120,000 - $150,000Onsite

About The Position

CompassX is a boutique business and technology consulting firm that assists Fortune 500 and high-growth clients with their most strategic initiatives, including enterprise transformations and digital/data projects. With over 15 years of experience, CompassX serves various industries such as financial services, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, consumer products, and quick service restaurants. The firm has been recognized as a three-time winner of Consulting Magazine’s Best Boutique Firms to Work For, a “Best Place to Work” in Southern California, and one of INC.’s 5000 fastest-growing private companies. This role is for a UX consultant who excels at problem-solving using strong UX methodology, rather than a visual designer focused on Figma comps or style guides. UX consultants at CompassX collaborate directly with enterprise clients to shape digital products, internal tools, and service experiences. The role involves structuring ambiguous problems, conducting user discovery, and designing solutions that are technically feasible and usable, requiring flexibility across research, interaction design, and prototyping.

Requirements

  • 5-8 years of experience across UX research, interaction design, and/or design build, with proficiency in at least two areas.
  • Consulting or client-facing experience, with the ability to manage ambiguity, shifting priorities, and stakeholder pressure.
  • Experience designing for internal enterprise tools, workflows, or platforms.
  • Proficiency in Figma.
  • Ability to conduct user interviews, synthesize findings, and translate qualitative data into design direction.
  • Active use of AI tools for design acceleration and a perspective on AI's role in design.
  • Based in LA or Orange County, with the ability to work on-site at client locations in Southern California.

  • Familiarity with Tableau, Power BI, or low-code tools for data visualization components.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Discovery: Plan and facilitate user research (interviews, contextual inquiry, usability testing) to identify problems before developing solutions.
  • Design Across the Stack: Create journey maps, service blueprints, wireframes, and high-fidelity prototypes as needed for engagements, managing the end-to-end design process.
  • Build and Validate: Develop interactive prototypes, contribute to design systems, or use tools like Figma, Tableau, or low-code platforms to expedite user feedback.
  • Translate for Technical Teams: Collaborate with developers, architects, and data engineers to ensure designs are buildable and accurately implemented.
  • Communicate Design Decisions: Explain design thinking, problem-solving approaches, and trade-offs to non-design stakeholders clearly and accessibly.
  • Bring AI Into the Work: Utilize AI tools for synthesis, prototype generation, and design iteration, and advise clients on AI's impact on product and service design.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary with performance-based bonus
  • PTO, holidays, and sabbatical program
  • Health, dental, vision, and life insurance
