About The Position

The Greater Philadelphia YMCA is hiring a Senior Camp Counselor for its Day Camp at Speers. The role involves supporting the summer camp community, helping children reach their potential, and working toward age-appropriate goals. The counselor receives team support and training, with opportunities to learn and grow as part of a nonprofit organization focused on strengthening the community.

Requirements

• At least 18 years old.
• High school graduate or equivalent, or enrolled in at least two years of child development coursework approved by state licensing requirements.
• Experience working with children.
• At least two seasons working as a Y Camp Counselor or as a counselor in a comparable program.
• Enthusiasm, a sense of humor, and patience.

Responsibilities

• Supervise campers and plan camp activities.
• Actively participate in activities to encourage camper participation.
• Ensure campers can participate in activities regardless of physical or intellectual abilities.
• Identify, address, and redirect or correct inappropriate behavior.
• Promote appropriate behavior among campers and staff to reduce the risk of accidents.
• Assist with effective communication with parents and guardians about campers and camp activities.
