About The Position

The Greater Philadelphia YMCA is seeking a seasonal Junior Camp Counselor for its day camp at Speers. The role supports the summer camp community by helping children reach their potential, working toward age-appropriate goals, and contributing to the Y community. The counselor assists with camper supervision and camp activity planning, participates in activities to encourage engagement, and helps ensure all campers can participate regardless of physical or intellectual abilities. The role also includes addressing inappropriate behavior, maintaining safety, communicating with parents or guardians, and embodying the YMCA’s commitment to diversity and inclusion. The YMCA provides training and team support, opportunities to learn and grow, and the chance to contribute to a nonprofit organization focused on strengthening the community. The position pays $330–$380 weekly.

Requirements

At least 16 years old.
Experience working with children.
Enthusiasm, a sense of humor, and patience.
Ability to deal effectively with inappropriate behavior and recognize hazardous situations.

Nice To Haves

Counselor-in-Training (CIT) experience.

Responsibilities

Assist with supervising campers and planning camp activities.
Actively participate in activities to encourage camper participation.
Help ensure all campers can participate in activities, regardless of physical or intellectual abilities.
Identify, address, and redirect or correct inappropriate behavior.
Help ensure appropriate behavior among campers and staff to reduce the risk of accidents.
Assist with communication with parents or guardians regarding campers and camp activities.
