About The Position

The Seasonal Junior Camp Counselor supports day camp operations at the YMCA’s Speers location. The role helps children reach their potential, supports age-appropriate goals, and contributes to a positive summer camp community. The counselor assists with camper supervision and activity planning, encourages participation, promotes inclusion for campers with varied abilities, and helps maintain safe and appropriate behavior. The position offers team support and training, opportunities to learn and grow, and the chance to contribute to a community-focused nonprofit.

Requirements

• Be at least 16 years old.
• Have experience working with children.
• Demonstrate enthusiasm, a sense of humor, and patience.
• Be able to deal effectively with inappropriate behavior and recognize hazardous situations.

Nice To Haves

• Camp-in-Training (CIT) experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist with supervising campers and planning camp activities.
• Actively participate in activities to encourage camper participation.
• Help ensure all campers can participate in activities regardless of physical or intellectual abilities.
• Identify, address, and redirect or correct inappropriate behavior.
• Help ensure appropriate behavior among campers and staff to reduce the risk of accidents.
• Assist with communication with parents and guardians about campers and camp activities.
• Embody the organization’s commitment to diversity and inclusion regardless of race, color, creed, or gender identification.
