About The Position

The Greater Philadelphia YMCA is seeking a Seasonal Camp Director for its day camp at Camp Speers in the Poconos. The director oversees camp staff and programming, organizes field trips, develops the daily schedule, and ensures programs meet the needs of campers of varying ages, abilities, and skill levels while maintaining safety and well-being. The role involves building relationships with staff, members, and parents and resolving scheduling, programming, parental, and staffing issues. The YMCA offers team support and training, opportunities to learn and grow, and the chance to contribute to a nonprofit organization serving the community.

Requirements

Must be at least 21 years of age.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least 3 years of experience working with children.
At least 2 years of experience working in a day camp setting and at least 1 year in a supervisory setting.
Prior or current experience in education, athletic education, child psychology, sports management, or a related field.
Enjoy working with children and maintaining positive relationships with their parents in high-energy sports environments.
Proficiency in swimming and ability to obtain lifesaving certifications, including CPR and First Aid.

Responsibilities

Supervise, train, motivate, and evaluate camp staff.
Manage and organize camp field trips.
Develop the daily schedule and verify that electives, special programs, and daily events are followed appropriately.
Ensure programs meet the needs of campers of all ages, abilities, and skill levels while maintaining the safety and well-being of staff and campers.
Build and maintain strong relationships with fellow directors, maintenance staff, tent and trailer staff, day camp staff, members, and parents.
Resolve scheduling, programming, parental, and staffing problems as they arise, consulting with a supervisor for assistance and input as necessary.
