About The Position
The Senior Camp Counselor works at the YMCA’s Speers day camp, helping children reach their potential and supporting the camp community. The role involves supervising campers, planning and participating in activities, supporting inclusion, and helping maintain a safe and positive environment. The position offers team support and training, opportunities to learn and grow, and weekly pay of $350–$450.
Requirements
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Be a high school graduate or equivalent, or be enrolled in a minimum of two years of child development coursework approved by state licensing requirements.
- Have experience working with children and at least two seasons working as a Y Camp Counselor or counselor in a comparable program.
- Demonstrate enthusiasm, a sense of humor, and patience.
Responsibilities
- Supervise campers and plan camp activities.
- Actively participate in activities to encourage camper participation.
- Ensure campers with varied physical or intellectual abilities can participate in all activities.
- Identify, address, and redirect or correct inappropriate behavior.
- Ensure appropriate behavior by campers and staff to reduce the risk of accidents.
- Assist with effective communication with parents and guardians about campers and camp activities.
