The Security Officer is responsible for maintaining a safe, secure, and child-centered environment for patients, families, visitors, and staff. In a pediatric hospital setting, the role combines protection with compassionate, family-focused support. Security Officers respond to routine and emergency situations, including behavioral health events and safety threats, and act as trained first responders in accordance with hospital protocols. The position requires sound judgment, calm decision-making, and close partnership with clinical teams to support safe patient care. Officers screen people entering facilities, check identification and badges, verify authorization, enforce Enterprise policies, and escort unauthorized persons from the property. They patrol buildings and, when assigned, surrounding areas and parking facilities on foot or in a patrol vehicle. They screen for weapons and prohibited items using detection devices when appropriate, document and secure identified items, and return them when appropriate as individuals leave the property. The role also includes providing security escorts; assisting clinical teams during patient restraint events and procedures; responding to calls and emergencies; supporting helicopter landings, fire alarms, and emergency preparedness events; intervening in conflicts when necessary to protect safety; and assisting with campus parking matters. Officers document incidents and daily activities and report problems and emergencies to supervisors. Employees with patient-facing responsibilities or who work in patient care buildings must receive an annual influenza vaccine as a condition of employment.
