About The Position

Black & McDonald’s Facilities Management & Operations team is growing! The Security Supervisor position is based in Toronto and reports directly to the Facility Manager. The role involves overseeing security operations at a prominent healthcare facility in the area.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Valid Security Officer License and/or certifications as required by local regulations
  • 3 years’ experience in a security management or supervisory role, preferably within a healthcare or institutional setting
  • Strong knowledge of security operations, emergency response procedures, and safety regulations
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive, high-pressure situations with professionalism
  • Proficiency in using security systems, including surveillance cameras and access control systems
  • Organization and time management
  • Meet all deadlines.
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Nice To Haves

  • Degree or Diploma in Criminal Justice, Security Management, or related would be considered an asset.
  • Strong Excel and JD Edwards or an Oracle-based ERP system are considered an asset (Additional training will be provided as required).

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the activities of the security team, including scheduling, training, and performance evaluations
  • Monitor and manage all security operations, including access control, surveillance systems, and emergency response procedures.
  • Conduct regular security assessments and audits to identify potential risks and implement corrective actions.
  • Respond to and investigate security incidents, including alarms, disturbances, and safety breaches, and prepare detailed reports.
  • Collaborate with other hospital departments, such as Human Resources, Risk Management, to support overall safety and security initiatives and address any interdepartmental security issues
  • Act as the primary point of contact for liaising with union stewards, address and resolve any issues related to union matters, including grievance handling and contract interpretation
  • Participate in union meetings and negotiations as required, ensuring compliance with collective bargaining agreements
  • Oversee and conduct annual audits to ensure compliance with organizational and regulatory standards, manage and maintain the security and distribution of keys, ensuring proper documentation and control measures are in place
  • Develop and implement security policies, emergency response plans and procedures to enhance safety and compliance with hospital standards and regulations
  • Provide leadership and guidance to security personnel, fostering a positive and professional work environment.
  • Ensure that all security equipment and systems are properly maintained and functioning effectively.
  • Coordinate with local municipal and other law enforcement agencies as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of security incidents, staff activities, document controls/record keeping and other relevant information on our Shared Database
  • Regularly update and maintain post orders, ensuring they reflect current operational procedures and policies, ensure all relevant staff are informed of and trained on updated post orders to maintain consistency and effectiveness in operations
  • Work with Emergency Preparedness team to develop and implement emergency response processes and conduct Code drills in the hospital.
  • Manage our physical security vendor and security integration specialist.
  • Maintain any security initiatives that are being implemented to our security program.
  • Review monthly budgets and maintain a multi-million-dollar budget.
  • Responsible for maintaining the annual preventative maintenance program at one of our work centres and scheduling vendors as required.
  • Rotating on-call work will be required in this role for any after-hours emergencies.
  • Assist in vendor relationship management and arrange for service in the case of major repairs.
  • Define and identify KPI & rework metrics that are not captured within existing ERP system.
  • Conduct monthly workplace inspections to verify quality, safety and compliance of the standards and regulations.
