About The Position

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service, is recruiting multiple seasonal contractual positions for the Fall 2026 to Spring 2027 season at Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad, Bill Burton Fishing Pier, and Wetipquin Creek State Parks. The working titles are Maintenance Worker and Park Ranger. Applicants must indicate their position(s) of interest on the Supplemental Questionnaire and should review the duties of each job series before applying. The positions are hourly and available full-time or part-time.

Requirements

• At least 40 hours of customer service or maintenance experience. Qualifying experience may include professional or volunteer work in retail, the service industry, administrative work, or similar fields.
• Provide complete and accurate information about education and experience related to the position's essential functions.
• If assigned duties requiring operation of a motor vehicle, UTV, or golf cart, possess a Maryland-valid motor vehicle operator’s license and have five points or fewer on the current driving record. A provisional driver's license is not accepted.
• Applicants selected for employment may be subject to an employment background investigation, which may include reference checks, education verification, a driving record check when driving is required, and a criminal history check including fingerprinting. Continued employment, where checks are required, depends on the results.

Nice To Haves

• At least six months of experience working in a park location performing park operations.

Benefits

• Contractual employees who work for a covered agency, have a current employment contract, and work at least 30 hours per week or an average of 130 hours per month may be eligible for subsidized health benefits for themselves and their dependents. Employees pay 25% of medical and prescription premiums, and the State of Maryland subsidizes the remaining 75%.
• Eligible employees may elect dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, paying the full premiums.
• Contractual employees may be granted leave at one hour for every 30 hours worked, up to 40 hours per calendar year.
