About The Position

The Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Maryland Park Service, is recruiting for multiple seasonal contractual positions at Freedman’s State Park for the Fall 2026 to Spring 2027 season. The available working titles are Maintenance Worker and Park Ranger. Applicants must indicate on the Supplemental Questionnaire which position or positions they are interested in to be considered. The salary is $17.41 or more per hour. The positions are located at 23222 Georgia Avenue, Brookeville, Maryland 20833, in Montgomery County. The announcement describes the vacancies as full-time and part-time; contractual employees may be eligible for subsidized health benefits if they have a current contract and work at least 30 hours per week or an average of 130 hours per month.

Requirements

• At least 40 hours of customer service or maintenance experience. Qualifying experience may include professional or volunteer work in retail, the service industry, administrative work, or similar fields, and must be indicated on the application.
• Employees assigned duties involving operation of a motor vehicle, UTV, or golf cart must have a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in Maryland and five points or fewer on their current driving record. A provisional driver’s license is not accepted.
• Selected applicants may undergo employment reference checks, education verification, driving record checks when driving is required, and criminal history checks including fingerprinting; continued employment is contingent on the results of required checks.

Nice To Haves

• At least six months of experience working in a park location performing park operations.

Benefits

• Eligible contractual employees may receive subsidized medical and prescription coverage for themselves and eligible dependents, with the employee paying 25% of premiums and the State of Maryland subsidizing 75%.
• Employees may elect dental coverage, accidental death and dismemberment insurance, and life insurance, with the employee responsible for the full premiums.
• Contractual employees may be granted leave at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked, up to 40 hours per calendar year.
