About The Position

First Student is hiring part-time School Van Drivers for Berrien RESA School District in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Drivers pick up students in the morning, transport them safely to school, and take them home in the afternoon. Additional hours may be available for field trips and special events. Training and guidance are provided, and no prior experience is necessary. The role offers a flexible split-shift schedule for morning and afternoon routes, with summers off. Drivers may receive a guaranteed minimum of four paid hours per day. The position is safety-sensitive and subject to DOT drug testing. Job-related training, safety communications, policies, and employment documents require English proficiency.

Requirements

Be at least 21 years old.
Have held a valid driver's license for at least 3 years.
Hold a chauffeur's license.
Be proficient in English for job-related training, safety communications, policies, and employment documents.

Nice To Haves

Enjoy working with students.
Experience driving for rideshare companies or taxi services.
Experience as a teacher, social worker, classroom assistant, hospitality worker, customer service associate, or retail associate.

Responsibilities

Safely transport students to and from school and activities.
Supervise students while boarding and unloading at stops, and assist with seatbelts and mobility aids.
Maintain order in the vehicle to prevent distractions.
Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of brakes, lights, tires, and emergency exits.
Report mechanical issues promptly and keep the vehicle clean and sanitary.
Follow traffic laws and company safety standards.
Communicate with parents, school staff, and dispatch about student behavior or delays.
Demonstrate leadership and customer service skills.
