About The Position

First Student is hiring part-time School Van Drivers for Berrien RESA School District in Berrien Springs, Michigan. Drivers pick students up in the morning, transport them to school, and take them home in the afternoon. Additional hours may be available for field trips and special events. No prior driving experience is necessary; First Student provides training and guidance. The role offers a split AM/PM schedule, summers off, and a minimum of four paid hours per day. Drivers must communicate in English for training, safety communications, company policies, employment documents, and other job-related communications. This is a safety-sensitive position subject to DOT drug testing.

Requirements

• Be at least 21 years old.
• Have held a valid driver's license for at least three years.
• Hold a chauffeur's license.
• Be proficient in English for job-related training, communications, policies, and documents.

Nice To Haves

• Experience driving for ride-share companies or taxi services.
• Previous experience as a teacher, social worker, classroom assistant, hospitality worker, customer service associate, or retail associate.
• Enjoy working with students.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport students to and from school and activities.
• Supervise boarding and unloading at stops, and assist students with seatbelts and mobility aids.
• Maintain order in the vehicle to prevent distractions.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of brakes, lights, tires, and emergency exits.
• Promptly report mechanical issues and keep the vehicle clean and sanitary.
• Follow traffic laws and company safety standards.
• Communicate with parents, school staff, and dispatch regarding student behavior or delays.
• Demonstrate leadership and customer service skills.
